In regards to our basketball team this year, the good news is that we will basically win any close game. The bad news is that if we can't keep it super close, then we seem to get completely blown out. Although we only have 5 losses, 4 of them were basically total blowouts, 2 of them to bad teams on the road.

We don't have the senior guard leaders, and explosive outside shooting to counter teams when they play with alot of emotion, aggression, and start getting "in the zone." (or when the refs are against us)

Remember how many huge shots Loften and Juwuan Smith would drill right after a huge shot from our opponents?? Unless Maze and Hopson are able to elevate their games and really hit big shots, we are gong to continue to struggle in these type of games, IMO.......

I do think that one possible solution would be to start Hall at center, and move Chism to 4, and go with a monster line-up, bc/ if our guards are not going to push the tempo and drill shots, then we should just play half-court and crush people in the paint.........any other thoughts? :hi:

I dont have a clue what will help this team. Just when i think they play well one way they go get smoked. If you think this will work you should email Jason Shay since he does most of the scouting of teams although I think Forbes has the Kentucky scout. They may listen but doubt it.

In all honestly it really doesn't matter, we know we aren't going to win the National championship and Kentucky is going to win the SEC...No reason to fret.

:( here is a new rule. If I am called for a foul then I can play close and hard until you are called for a foul. this game needs to get the refers out of the position that they can throw a game.43 or more foul against tn and 20 or less against vandy. It looked to me like TN was pushed, bumped, held, I saw mays tripped several time on the inside and no call for TN. And 43 or more calls for vandy. A referee is to call it the same. These same players beat GA, Kansas, and if they got beat by vandy by 10 ok buy tn was down by 27 about 1/2 way through the 2nd 1/2. Bull

The problem is Bruce Pearl...He doesnt know how to manage his players minutes. The team has gotten worse with the return of Goins, Williams, and Tatum. Steven pearl should not play a single minute. We dont play up-tempo anymore so the depth does not really matter. Give Maze, Prince, Chism, Hopson, and Hall anywhere between 28-34mins per game. No excuse on why Hall didnt get more P.T. in tonights game. Kenny hall should have gotten the extra 12 minutes that Steven Pearl received. Kenny Hall is our best offensive rebounder. Steven Pearl is just awful!

Also, where in the world has Woolridge been, he has been pretty much a no show the last few games.

I really think that we are missing toughness.....some of our toughest guys were Tyler Smith, Josh Tabb, Negedu, etc.....and we don't have any of those guys anymore.......we gotta get much tougher and not let teams physically dominate us, bc/ we definitely don't have the outside shooting to keep up in a shootout, either......

My assessment of this team leads me to believe that many of the players have low basketball IQ. It's easy to see when things begin to go the other team's way. Our guys begin to go one on one to find that 20 point shot to bring them back. The coaches should be telling these guys to win possessions, one at a time. But I truly feel that our guys are not basketball savy enough to do that. Immature teams are difficult to figure out. They may play great one minute and have you shaking your head the next. This team seems to be that way. :banghead2:

This team can only play the underdog role. When it is time for them to man up and be the tough favortie they should be they fail.

You mean you don't think J.P. Prince is a smart basketball player? How dare you? :birgits_giggle:

This team is a below average 3 point shooting team. If they could hit 8 - 10 3's a game that would make a big difference both in the score and in the way other teams defend us.

didn't really see the game, although since I was in Nashville tonight, I almost went and scalped tickets. Really glad I didn't, obviously. But in between breaks between "Are you smarter than a 5th Grader (my fourth grade niece loves that show)" I would check out the score and action. It seemed a lot the rest of our blowouts. No one can hit the back side of a barn, no real three point threat unless really lucky. It seems in our wins, we shoot differently, or at least hit a couple threes. But it doesn't matter. I agree with the poster, go big and see if that changes things at all. It seems Williams plays best bashin' people and the basket. Same for Chism and to a degree Prince. They should only shoot 10 threes a game, and even then they should have to earn them, if they are going to shoot them.

Another thing. How can you have the talent on this team and be so poor at shooting? Doesn't really make sense. One thing I've noticed, is that Bruce doesn't pound em, when they play bad. He's cool and they love him for that. But going to school in Indiana at the home of the Hoosiers, Bobby Knight both repelled and attracted me. And when things got bad, Bobby got mad. And although in my years they lost a bit, got out muscled some, but always could shoot the basketball. That's one thing this teams isn't developing, good shooting. And I wonder if that is coaching (not helping the players learn to shoot better) or motivation or plays called, or perhaps the players just never could shoot and we should have recruited others. I don't know. They seem to get open looks and easy buckets. But too often don't convert. I don't know, I just don't know.

It does matter...why would someone even care to watch if dont expect any type of expectations out of their team?

Can ANYONE agree that this team has not been the same since Goins and Williams returned to the lineup? Don't get me wrong, we NEED their depth, but the chemistry seemed to flow much much smoother without them on the team.
Hopefully, we can learn something from this loss.
The good news is we have an extra day to prepare for Kentucky.

The good news is that we're going to be pissed off and kick the **** out of Kentucky, and Stephen Pearl won't have two bad games in a row. A lot of people here are going to have to eat a lot of humble pie. Of course, washing it down with a big win over Kentucky will make it palatable.

Just two bad games in a row for Stevie?
