The Golf Thread

I've gotten to the point where I feel like I'd be wasting my time taking my time on the greens, I feel like I'm going to miss regardless.

And there lies the problem, Putting is all about confidence, feeling as if you can sink a putt from anywhere on the green.

If you're 3 & 4 putting then its just practice. Probably need to work on speed. Try looking at the hole & putting. If you're missing putts you think you should make do like everybody else & get a new putter.

That might be the case, but it certainly isn't as simple as you make it sound. If he's three and four putting, then it is most LIKELY an alignment issue.

It's more common to putt a ball 5-6ft short or long than to misread one by that much. If you can't read greens or have halfway decent speed alignment doesn't mean a thing.

I'm a pretty good putter and I use the feeling of my feet at address and 1 or 2 spots on the line if I am able and not in anyone else's line. My feet tell me better on many holes than my eyes do.

I don't think he's arguing for alignment over speed. He was just gently pointing out that anyone who is 3 and 4 jacking every green likely has something more than just a speed issue.

Whatever works for you. I do know one thing though . . . I never get tired of watching people plum-bob when it's obvious they've got no clue what they're looking at.

True. He didn't really specify how he was 3 & 4 putting so it would be hard to pinpoint. He's obviously missing some short putts & probably knocking 6fters 5ft past & leaving 20fters 5ft short. Just guessing of course.

I've never done it because I don't get it. I get about 99% of what I run into, but I don't get calculus and I don't get plum-bobbing. Maybe they are connected.

It's a lot easier to keep them on line when you're pounding them 10 feet by. :)

I don't knock it that far by, or leave it that short. It sounds weird but im better with really long putts than medium range ones. I exaggerated some too with the 4 putts.

Called in sick today to Play. Was 2 under through 6 and finished front 2 over.

Shot a 77. I have been hitting my new irons so far for me it's hard to club. Hit an 8 iron 165 into the wind for a birdie on a par 3. I used to hit an 8 150

As someone said earlier, a drill that works for me with speed from medium-long is to look at the hole while making the stroke.

Swing change or is that just a result of the new irons having a stronger loft?

I have been working out for the last year so am a lot stronger and also got the ap2's. My 5 wood used to go 215. I birdied a 235 par 3 by putting it 8 feet away on sat. Was hitting my 3 wood like 260 w roll. My drives only go like 275-280 if I bomb it though.

The prob is I was 130 out into the wind and hit a 3 quarter pw right at it and flew the green and ended up bogeying. It's frustrating hitting a good shot and not having distance control.

Just got invited to a golf and ryder cup trip to Chicago in September with a group of 8. Never been. Should be cool. Think we are playing and drinking in morning and to the cup from there.

I would have to see him putt to make an accurate diagnosis. Part of an alignment issue can be an inaccurate read. That's ok though. It's likely you know much better:birgits_giggle:

You might want to get your lofts checked. It's not too uncommon to have a new set arrive with all the lofts off just a bit.

Because its common for people to misalign 5 or 6ft wide of target I guess.

I just stare at it for a minute and then whack the ball in the general direction of the hole. Usually works out pretty well. I never have to do any more than 4 putt.
