It's not like the 905T is that old..
I play the 905r

it's 3 years old. Not that old, but with the technology that has come out since, it's pretty dated. Both the 909 and 907 are much hotter IMO. First Titleist clubs I've ever hit where you can literally feel the ball spring off the clubhead.

Being able to and actually doing it are two different things. Changing the characteristics of a club in the middle of a round is most definitely cheating and should never be done.

yeah, of course it shouldn't be done but i'd be willing to bet anybody who has one won't hesitate to close the club face on day if they happen to be slicing the ball, for example.

I think it's pretty common knowledge that you can't do that . . . but if anybody ever does that to you in the middle of the round, double the bet immediately. They are a head case.

doozer, are you serious? Nobody is going to be doing that in the middle of the round and get away with it if you are playing in a tournament. If it's your buddies playing a side bet, kick there a--!!

serious about what? of course nobody is going to do it in a tournament. give me a break.

I think that moving things around are probably just going to make the average duffer worse. Instead of working on the things that cause the bad ball flight, let's just keep doing something stupid and change the club. I will say however, that my L4V is the cat's pajama's. I no longer wonder how tour players launch the ball so beautifully, I will always be amazed at their distance control.

It ain't all about the clubs. Those guys now hit moon bullet drivers, yet take the 3 wood when they want to hit a trap burning hook like 10 at Augusta requires. There's a hint of talent in there somewhere.

Not to mention hours a day on the range and constant instruction.

I hate my irons. I thought I would like them, and I've had them a couple of years, and I still can't hit them worth a crap. They are MacGregor V-Foils. I have the opportunity to buy some 8 year old Wilson Fat Shafts at a very, very good price. Opinions?

Those shafts are hideous. Friend of mine was a Qilson Rep for years and swore by the fat shaft, but always played their other clubs that were designed my Robert Mandrella.

And, for the record, I play MacGregor irons today.

Fair enough. I'll definitely be taking them for a test drive, regardless, but thanks for the feedback, guys. Part of the problem might be the fact that I'm pretty sure the shafts on the MacGregors are too long for me - I'm 5'8", and feel like I need to choke down on about everything.

Ever had anyone put impact tape on the bottom of a club to measure you for the proper lie? Shaft length should be irrelevant if the lies are right. I'm the same height as you are and my lie angles are bent all the way to 2* flat.

Exactly. I'm 6'3" and mine are all 3* upright, save woods.

I'm that height as well and I'm about to get my clubs customized for the first time. Is the lie angle as important as the shaft length or what? I'm not really sure how the lie angle changes with the height of the person/shaft.

The lie angle / length of club is about setup and arm length as much as it is height.

Els is a tall cat, bit his long arms probably dictate standard or even flat lie.

Most will use impact tape on the sole of the club to determine your need, but systems like Ping's simply measure finger height from the ground in the standing position. Go for the dynamic measure if you can. The lie board is almost always best.

yeah I was just thinking about doing the Ping customization system, but that obviously doesn't take into account your swing. I'll probably use the impact tape.

Any decent pro can have you ready to roll with a couple of options in about 15 minutes.

Incorrect lie angles will screw you up in a hurry. If you are buying forged clubs, they can usually bend them about a degree or so to fit you. Most club fitters won't touch a cast iron though for fear of breaking the hosel.

Finally hit the 909D2 over the weekend. As with the couple of generations before it, I love the look and I hit it pretty good, BUT I still hit my 983K about 10 yds farther. Call me a liar all you want, but I've seen the results for several years, now. I'm in the market to buy something new, as you can clearly see that I'm years behind on drivers, but I'm not long enough to give up distance just to be modern.

I've hit almost everything in recent years and nothing compares to the distance and accuracy I'm still getting out of the k. I like smaller, more traditional heads, but their has to be something out there that will give me more pop than it.
