The Golf Thread

I know the wind is brutal . . . but that was a complete meltdown. That smother hook that he hit on his 2nd drive was just awful.

i actually didn't get to see it because the feed went out either on their end or my end while he was in his back swing.

i still had the audio though an you could hear the groans from the gallery almost instantly.

i did see him back at 7 when he took a triple.

The feed went out here too, but I actually saw the swing. He held it shut at the top and then threw the club at the ball before finishing his follow through one handed. It was the kind of "anti-right" swing you would see from an 18 handicapper that has just sliced one OB.

i was waiting for the Perez meltdown that i was just sure would happen. instead it was Stricker.

i'd love to get out to the FBR. next week is definitely the most entertaining tourney on the schedule to me. not sure yet if i'll play Phail in my league.

Stricker was the highest ranked player in that field.

There was a lot of talk this weekend about the players supporting the tournaments in order to prop up financially strapped sponsors. The big dogs must not have gotten the memo...

pick a par 5, and do a "tee blaster" for 5 bucks, you can skip the tee shot from the tee box, and take your first shot from the 200 yard marker

5 day putting contests aren't typically for the best golfers. Stricker is short and crooked, so a joint that's no test off the tee and a birdie fest suits him very well.

The best want a course that will eliminate guys like Perez from sniffing a leader board.

That's why I have a hard time paying attention to the PGA Tour until they leave the West Coast.

1) Sell a hole in one on a Par 3.
2) Sell the chance to hit a tee shot from the red tees on a particular hole.
3) Sell string for $1 per foot to be used on any hole at any time.
4) Sell a free "throw".
5) Stand on any par 3 of longer than about 150 yards and give people 2:1 on their money if they hit the green. You'll come out ahead.

and get a photographer to come out and snap photos of the team on the 1st Tee. Sell them for $5 per person. I don't know why, but people buy those things like mad.

I always wonder why people buy those things to remember that day when they played golf with 3 fat guys in ugly shirts to raise money for the Jaycees.

He plays a lot and refuses to wear a glove, so I put on Winn Excels. It's the softest thing I could find.

I just went and had an old set of woods (cleveland classics) regripped
and noticed they didn't have the brown/tan winn excels as an option

when I asked they said winn disco'd them and are only making them in black now

What are you trying to do? Coordinate your grip color with your pants?

One thing I have done, for a baseball golf tourney, is to have a wood bat, one light and one heavy, at one of the par 5 holes. Charge $5 for 2 hits with the bat, hitting a golf ball of course. The "longest hit" splits either splits the pot or have a donated prize and keep all the money.
I have also done this on a par three, as to hitting the golf ball closest to the pin with a bat.

Another good one is a putting contest. $10 for three putts from at least 25' with a good break in the putt. Bring the top three qualifiers back for a "putt off" for the prize or half the pot.

Good Luck and have fun.

Thanks everyone for the ideas... i'm going to use some of the ideas... the Tourney is Tom. I'll come back and let you know how it went...
