The Golf Thread

I'm actually looking at the new CG 12, and might replace the 58 degree, it's probably the second most used club in my bag, behind my putter

I've got the CG12 Gap Wedge. It's very solid, but I've got it only because I found it in the loft and bounce that I was looking for. I can't tell much difference between the CG12's and the 588's.

Cleveland Wedges never go out of style.
for some reason, I don't like the look of them any more. Grew up on them, but find them ugly as sin today. They tend to look very round to me, whereas the 200 series Vokeys have a pretty straight leading edge.

for those who play Cleveland wedges, about three times a year Dick's runs a sale where they either have buy one, get one free or two for 100 bucks or something similar.

i need new wedges so bad but unfortunately my funds have been so low i've had to pass this offer up several times. just figured i give a heads up.

I'd buy another 588 if I could find the oil can in a 58 degree

Edwin Watts had them for either 59 or 69 bucks but no 58 degree

You might also check out the Callaway wedges. Roger Cleveland is the designer, so on some models the only difference is the name stamped on the club. I've got a 58 degree Callaway Forged that looks and feels just like a Cleveland 588.

thanks, I'll look at them

I'll probably end up with a Titelist, I stopped by the pro shop the other day, and that's the majority of what they have on order.
The local Golf store shut down last year (tax issue), and I really would like to buy one locally instead of on-line

I'm not in any rush, I've got 4-5 weeks before I wil be swinging a club again

You must be a pretty good player

I just got a set of the Taylor Made RAC MB forged tour blades with the Rifle shaft. I love them, even more so than my Mizunos. I can see why so many tour players have gone to them during the past couple of years

Nike Ignite 33" putter

2009 season starts tomorrow night.

Even though Tiger isn't playing, should be entertaining. Anthony Kim has added a lot to the tour with his flamboyant style of play. If I were betting, I would take Singh. Of all the top players, he is less likely to be rusty after a short holiday period. He very rarely will ever take more than one day off from the range.

i'll take Kim or Villegas.

in fact, i think they both will be the stars of 2009. and Serigio will win a major.

but he's one 2 foot miss away from another swoon. He always hits it as well as anybody else, but his putting can drop off to BPV-land.

i don't think he'll have near the year he had last year. everything was going in for him, and that's not the norm. i also think Kenny Perry won't be near as competitive either.

what do you think about Couples this year? i read a few places where Freddy said his back was feeling the best it's felt in years. i think he plans on playing in about 20 tourneys + the captain of the President's Cup. think he can put together 4 solid rounds one weekend and find himself in contention?

fantasy golf gets underway this week too.

going for me this week:

AK
Zach Johnson
Adam Scott
Chez Reavie

bench:

Villegas
Daniel Chopra
DJ Trahan
Johnson Wagner

he can still hit with anyone when he on and feeling healthy, but his short putting is something akin to Vijay's now. I suspect that would kill him, but I wouldn't be surprised to find him in contention. He hits the ball as solidly on every swing as anyone.

I really like Hunter Mahan right now. Great ball hitter with some putting confidence arising. I just like the whole game there. Same for Boo. When he putts it well, he's in contention.
