there probably is, but you won't be able to hit it as high as you can a 5 wood.i've been curious about the hybrids for a while. i hit my longs irons pretty well though, even a 2 iron, so i'm not really sure if it's worth it. is there a hybrid equal to a 5 wood? i can't hit that club to save my life.

Long irons were a long time strength of my game, but I wouldn't consider putting my 2 iron back in over my 2h.
people still play them some, but mostly folks who can't use the other clubs. It's tough to have clubs in the bag that only serve one purpose, besides the putter.if i can't tee it up, i won't pull it out of my bag. comes in handy though on long par 3s.
i was rummaging through some storage stuff and found both of my grandfathers bags the other day. they each had clubs for chipping. basically they looked like a putter but had a little angle on them. do people still use these things? seems like a better play that pulling out your hybrid/wood for around the greens and off the fringe.
they're legal, but nobody's on tour who can't use all the wedges like a champ. I suspect you won't see the chipper any time soon.i may have to take it to the practice green. i rarely, if ever use my sand wedge.
are they legal to use on the tour?
I used to use them all. Now I'm all PW and LW.I'm the same way. I probably pitch/chip with a SW or LW 95% of the time. Dave Pelz would tell me I'm wrong, but I've always found it easier to hit one club a bunch of different ways than to hit a bunch of different clubs one way. It drives me crazy to try and figure out how high or low and how much a 8 iron is going to run vs. a Pitching Wedge or a 9 iron or a 7 iron etc.

you can do so much with the sand / L wedge that I have begun using it more for all shots around the green. You can hit the low spinner, the flop, the runner.....
when I first started, the 8 iron punch and 8 iron bump and run was about 75% of my game. I still love the punch, but can control the ball better with the LW because of the spin I can give it.I used to be a PW and a 60 guy, but with my current 56 it seems I can do no wrong with it. I have always sucked at trying a bump and run with irons or any sort of putt that isn't on the green.

whichever one's comfortable, but I've found, like GA said, it's much easier to manipulate one club than a bunch of different ones.
Tiger chips with one club all the time as do a lot of pros now.
I think we're all that way to some degree. If I can find a way to use my PW, I do. I don't actually carry a Gap. My P is 48, S is 54 and L is 60.if i'm 75 yards or in, i almost exclusively use my gap wedge. i never thought of it in terms using one club for all the shots like GA said. i use it because it's definitely the one that's most comfortable.

Went back a page and found the exact opposite of what I was trying to post. To each his own, I suppose. For chipping, it is much easier for me to step off a distance, eyeball an addition or subtraction for lie, slope, grain, or whatever, and pull the correspoding club than to try to adjust the same club to take all of that into account from any distance. Again, a lot of that probably has something to do with the amount of time I am able to dedicate to the game.
