the reason i asked is because i'm pretty sure that the girlfriend is going to 'surprise' me with new irons for christmas.
played yesterday at Pine Oaks. Muni course was in typical craptastic condition for late fall and winter. Greens were hard as a rock. Nothing less than a 52 would hold on those greens. However, if you tried to roll it up from the fairway, be prepared for it to stick.
Hit the ball incredibly well though, especially solid in my irons. I don't think I hit a single bad iron. Just got craptastic results.
some days the results almost don't matter. It's fun as hell to know it's doing what you want and going where you want.

I love those days. Much more fun than an OK striking day with great putting.I agree totally. I never expect much from this course. I mean walk all you want for 11 bucks? How much can I expect?
But the confidence i had with irons in my hands was amazing and something I know I can take to the better courses in the area as time and weather allows. I was hitting cuts and fades and even pulled off a draw (something I seriously struggle with).
Everyone in this thread has been exactly there, shanks and all.I now wish I had started following along with this thread way back when it was started, since I started golfing myself earlier this year.
I'd never touched a club before in my life, and the first few times out were especially brutal, but I think as the year has gone along I've improved to the point of just being terrible.
Guy I used to work with talked me into trying it. He let me borrow a set of his clubs, gave some advice, and then I went off and did nothing but the driving range for about a month.Everyone in this thread has been exactly there, shanks and all.
Did you do some lessons, or just give it a whirl with some golf magazine and buddy advice?
you might get somebody who understands golf and golf learning, not necessarily a pro, to give your swing a look and help get you on the right path from the early stages.Guy I used to work with talked me into trying it. hey doozer
Lessons definitely wouldn't be a bad idea, but I'm not sure if I'm quite that invested in it just yet.
More than anything, my driver has improved the most. At the start, when I actually started making consistent contact, I was slicing everything. Finally got that figured out in the last month or so and my driver is now straight, for the most part.
you start hitting the driver straight, you're freaking invested bro.
