The Golf Thread

my buddy topped a drive today that didn't quite make it past the ladies tees... rules are rules...

Slow play bothers me in competition. On a regular day, I just automatically assume an inconsiderate SOB is going to be somewhere on the course ahead of me and just roll with it.

Situational awareness. Many people lack this simple skill. Drives me berserk. If there's nobody behind you, take all the time you want. Let faster groups play through. Play ready golf. If riding, drive the cart to a point equidistant between the two balls instead of driving to one, having one player get out and hit, then driving to the other one. Play the correct tees (i.e. if you're not hitting 7-iron or less into at least some of the par 4's, move up a set.) Pick up after reaching double par on any hole. No one wants to sit in the fairway waiting for you to putt out for your 12. Simple stuff that is so commonly ignored.

when you say double-par do you mean like double of what the par is? like if it's a par 4 then 8 is the highest, par 5 ten is the highest etc... we always say nothing over a triple bogie..

eta: hope that is not cheating but usually it's a true triple or would have been very close to have been.

The problem is that people are situationally unaware because nobody has ever told them what they're supposed to do. If the pro shop or the on course rangers would grow a set and actually talk to people, things would be a lot better.

or the "I paid just as much as anyone else to be here, so I'm gonna do it the way I please." People act as if others are intentionally speeding up their own games to push them. Just dumb.

One of the beauties of a private club is that people generally know better or learn quickly.

There ought to be a Marshall sitting at the tee box of every Par 3 forcing slow groups to let people through.

My other personal favorite is when the course is backed up and I'm waiting in the fairway to have a go at a Par 5 in 2 and I turn around and theres a guy on the tee looking at me with his hands on hips as if I'm the problem.

By then...I'm usually jinxed. It is a psychological nightmare. 666...a perfect page for the topic.

Shot a miserable 49 on the Chimney Top 9 at Graysburg today. My putting saved my score from being one of my worst ever. Sprayed the ball everywhere.

Playing 18 at Warriors tomorrow.

That's a fun side of golf. Graysburg is one of the more underrated courses in East Tennessee and a pretty good test from the tips!

love graysburg. don't play there a whole lot in the summer though unfortunately.

that's funny.

I had always heard the comments, but never actually had seen someone do it. Where I am now, you have to do it, or a 2 stroke penalty is assessed on whatever game we are playing. Luckily, I haven't duffed one like that in awhile. Too bad the biggest dude in our group seems to do it at least once every week.

That's a fact

Oh I forget, you've done everything everywhere. My apologies.

That doesn't change that you're wrong. Private clubs don't need people to come back, so they police the place well. Public courses need green fees and tend to ignore it. If you're at private joint with slow play and you don't address it , it's your fault.
