The Golf Thread

I don't even remember that last time somebody at VolNation shot in the 90s.

My favorite post from this site in ages. Would love to see a VN two day tourney with play it as it lies, no mulligans rules in effect. And, if you don't play in the tourney, you're never allowed to post about your game again.

Also a lot of modern math at work. I'd bet that there's not more than maybe 10% of amateur golfers consistently getting it out there that far.

That's not a huge leap, consistency is what separates the men from the boys. Charles Howell 3 told me that even a bogey golfer will hit a couple of pro shots every round but a pro hits bogey golfer shots only a couple of times a round.

Dang Bro! You take it personal when someone says they shoot a good round?

No, but the fact that 97% of the golfers in this forum are below an 8 handicap proves that either UT does a horrible job recruiting golfers or we have a bunch of liars on this board. Which do you think it is?

My struggles have been documented, no lies here!

I think its probably the golfers that are posting their scores and the hackers that are not.

Prob just talking about 2 different groups of people. When I talk about golfers I'm referring to guys that play at least 5 rounds a month, usually more. Hackers make up the rest. Hackers are more concerned with a good time with buddies and beers than the scorecard.

I think both are good for the game. I'm playing with hackers today and I'm having a great time!

Every big golf forum on the internet has handicappers from +2 to 20+. Volnation clearly has the best golfers of any message board on the planet. That, or volnation has fibbers

Somewhere around there percentage-wise...I agree. Could be a little higher with equipment so much better these days. 270 is a good drive on a frozen lake for most amateurs.

If I absolutely bust one I only get it 285 ish. Normal drive is 260ish . But i can hit my 3 wood regularly 250 so not sure what the deal is.

Yeah, I top out at about 240 off the tee with my driver but I've hit my 3wood from the fairway 275+ before. Weird as hell

I couldn't either, and don't care. As long as doesn't go in a fairway bunker and past the woman's tee, I can do something with it.

There's a lot to be said for being able to drive it to a spot where you A) can hit it again and B) can swing at the green on the next one.
