The Golf Thread

Your name suggests you played golf in college, so I find this statement to be highly untrue. 36 holes days were a sun up to sun down affair for us. Usually coming back to finish up the next morning

Sorry...you are correct! TOURNAMENT Golf is different. Regular play should NEVER take more than 4 1/2 hrs. My fault on that!!!! Several 36 hole rds would take 12 hrs to play in college. Still a joke.....Most would play better if they played quicker!!!!!

6 hours is extreme but 5 can be the norm depending on the location/time/season. Florida in the winter is crazy. I refuse to spend 6 hours on the course unless there's entertainment along the way. LOL Actually, once I got a boat, I'd head to the lake if I had that much free time and anchor by the course. Sitting in the water with a cold one watching 'em suffer in 95 degree heat is quite relaxing.:p

5 hrs is not a big deal!!!! The best time to play in FLA. is during the summer.

When I was an assistant in So. FL...we used to play Doral or Seminole 2 days a week
(36 holes a day)....no one was there!!!!!!!!!!! We'd play 36 in 5 1/2-6 hrs! It was great!

BTW.....you can ALWAYS drink cold ones while you play!!!!!!

Watching the PGA.

Tiger might put it away tomorrow.

Quiros can kill it.

Phil needs to go back to bigger shirts.

We ALL know its over....Tiger is the KING!!! (not MY fav..but the best)

Phil needs the "bro" from Seinfeld........I always pull for him, but he is dealing with too much stuff to win this!

BTW....PM me if you would like to play some time........I have a +2 hdcp and would enjoy playing with a Big papa Vol fan!!!!

Where were you an assistant? I was at Woodfield CC and then the Boca Polo Club up until '93 when I moved to Orlando. We spent every Monday playing 36 somewhere.

I'm just getting acclimated to the heat again after moving back to FL. I played Saturday and again Tuesday and was drained after 18 both days. Those 2 rounds matched the number of times I'd played in the previous 12 months though.

Yep, small world indeed. Mary Beth and Tom were cool. That was a crazy place. Some of those members were some of the worst I've ever encountered. I loved playing there though. I could go out and the end of the day and be done in less than 2 hours. That's the way to play golf. I hardly ever played the Club course. The Equestrian was so much better.

Amen to that!!!!!!(members wise) They have re-done both courses in the last 3 yrs. I played there over Christmas and they are really good! Tom was a really great guy to work for!!!

Are you still a PGA member???

There isn't enough beer to calm me down while watching a slapnut from the group in front of me line up his putt for 2 minutes because he has a $1.00 bet on the hole.

For me if a round goes much longer than 4 hours it better be under CPO conditions. It is just the way I was raised.

Actually, I never was. They obviously didn't hire me for my golf ability.... and that's why I left the club side of things after the Polo. I never even bothered to take the PAT. I can tell you the right way to do things but I'm not very good at doing it.:p

I actually ran into another assistant from there working at a course in St Augustine. I don't remember her name right now but she had massive legs and straight blondish hair....Mary maybe...

I will do so, but I'm getting strokes, albeit 1, and you'll have to play fast.

Wife wants to move back to Virginia for school for the kids, so might be getting closer soon.

Man Schools aren't that bad in Fayetteville, to make you move across the country

We've talked about for quite a while and have good reasons. I don't really NEED to be here any more. Isn't an abrupt decision or anything.

Yeah, WTH is up with that? He has an agent, a publicist, and a myriad of other people from sponsors to tailors that are concerned with his image, not to mention a mirror. You would thing between all of them, somebody might have piped up and said simply, "Why don't we try the XXL today?"

There isn't enough beer to calm me down while watching a slapnut from the group in front of me line up his putt for 2 minutes because he has a $1.00 bet on the hole.

Slow play from tee to green bothers me even more. Inevitably, when I get stuck behind the slow foursome, there is a guy sitting in his cart waiting for each of the other three to hit. Then he spends 2 minutes figuring out whether he is closer to the red or white stake. Then he says a short prayer over his bag before pulling a club, swinging it, then putting it back and starting over. Then he stands over the ball and practice swings 11 times before finally adressing the ball and gollynobbing one 20 yards short.

Play ready golf, and be ready to hit when it is your turn, for God's sake.
