The Gators are STILL UPSET!!

stepete, as a fellow Gator fan, I am not allowed to officially welcome you to the Volnation site. But unofficially, howdy. This is a good place. You will enjoy it. Got to be thick skinned at times, and occassionally self-censor to keep the topic on track, but overall its a go with the flow kinda deal.

As to the substance of your post, I've been telling them this exact same thing for months. The Vols fans by and large acknowledge that they are very dependent on three's and also that it could be a problem in the tournament if they have a bad night from the perimiter. But they do bristle at any comparison (even though its totally valid, IMO) to earlier Gator teams that made an early exit based on a bad shooting night.
we have spent well over 2/3 of this season with Lofton hitting nothing, yet have only lost 2 ballgames.

Anyone out there paying attention, please listen to me. As Tyler Smith goes, so goes the Vol team. When he is assertive offensively and on the boards, we are a monstrous matchup for anybody. When he doesn't show, the likes of KY actually came back a beat us. The three point shooting matters for sure, but we have pretty good fallback in that Tyler and Ramar provide decent offset. It's not the same as having Hansbrough get 15 FTs per night, but it's better than what Duke has available to it.

Noted. And I agree.:good!:

Right on Pappa, that is what I have been trying to tell people down here. They can only understand throwing the football and shooting the 3. Gator fans LOVE points.

I agree with the gators, here. The 3-pointers/press are our bread and our depth is our butter. The Florida game was the only game I feel Tennessee played a complete game of offense. This season there were just too many 5 or 6 minutes of no offense at all. Tyler is improving each week and we're going to need him down the stretch. If we do go deep in the tournament, our outside shooting could be a problem in the big domes. Makes me sick to my stomach, but yeah, I agree with the gators.

Welcome to the board. You started with a smart post.

You might enjoy our new bammer guy. He's true to bammer form... a real nut. He's already claimed the 2005 SEC Championship for the bammer football team. It would be nice if a Gator would sign on and be that stupid, but hasn't happened yet.

However, least you think I feel otherwise, Gators suck.:eek:k:

first post here and i didnt bother to read the entire thread so take i apologize if someone has already mentioned this but...

I think UT is a very good and as long as everything is clicking they are certainly a final 4 team and a favorite (IMO) to win it all. with that said, yall remind me a little of the gator teams before the back to back title teams (with walsh, roberson, etc) in that you kind of live and die by the 3. now, in the games ive watched of UT, you guys have been unconscious from the outside and it allowed you to blow teams out. thing is, enevitably in the tourney, you are going to have one of those games where your outside shots just wont fall and you'll need to be able to get the bulk of your points from the inside to win. seems like you have capable inside guys but are they going to be dependable when nothing is working from outside?

and thats why UF made quick exits from the tourney2001-2005. we didnt have more than 1 capable big guy inside to cause problems and our outside shot just wouldnt fall (even though we were a very good outside shooting team). with the 04s, we had to guys inside and last year we had 3 with richard so that even when shots werent falling from the outside, we could still kill teams inside. IMO, thats whats missing from this years florida squad, 2 quality big men. therefore when our shots arent falling, we get run out of the building. man do i wish we picked up patrick patterson....

Welcome to the forum. You'll need these while you're here:

Duke wasn't available during a stretch there.

Duke may or may not have had an impact against Kentucky. Bruce needs to find a way to kill their game plan when they come to Knoxville since I'm sure they'll want to slow it down again...and use that shadow defender.

One reason i like our chances better this time around (besides the game being at TBA) is that we've gotten better at beating the zone. When we run our offense through Tyler Smith at the free throw line, we get that much harder to stop.

I was honestly shocked that more teams didn't try and pull a Kentucky by trying to slow the game way down. The main thing for our offense is making sure we can get rebounds, and it appears that ever since the Kentucky game we have been doing better.

Our press isn't really designed to slow teams down. We press to get the tempo in our favor, not to force you to nearly get 10second calls every trip down the court. It's almost like CBP wants you to break it b/c that will get you in to our kind of fast paced game. Which is obviously our strength and ideally leads to turnovers from opponents.

You are right on. The press is a win some lose some, but if your not deep you better break it then pull it back out. If Tenn. can get them in an up and down game, it's over. Tenn will blow them out.

That is what is going to make the Memphis game fun. Both teams want to run, the team that can avoid turnovers will win.

I appreciate the kind words, but while the grass over there may be greener, the Italian marble over here, with filet mignon and fine bourbon, served by beautiful topless 25 year old French women who speak no English, is just fine with me.

Its good to be the king. Even if only for another 6 weeks.

Where's the needle? No needle? Then, why are your eyes bloodshot and your nose has flour on it...... wait that's not flour!

If UT is hot from the outside and can lay 85-100 points on people, press them and wear them down, then they can beat anyone.

You know for being a Gator fan you really have more respect than I thought you had when I first joined.
