The Final Score is Different Without the Weather Delay

Good post.

We got punched in the mouth and had regained our footing only to stall on a promising drive. We didnt respond in the second. Both teams are in a delay. It's our job to get ready when it's over, we just got our ass handed to us after that. No excuses it was what it was.
My thoughts exactly! If we could have managed a 1st down after having 2nd and 3, they most likely wouldn't have had the last possession of the half. I was yelling from the stands on our punt with about 2 minutes left in the half. We snapped the ball with about 10 seconds on the play clock. Picky I know, but why give them 10 extra seconds to drive the field?

You understand that if lightning were to strike in the stands we are talking numerous casualties. But by all means let's just risk it because this lady thinks football is more important.

No silly. But we could all also hide from an impending *insert terrible event here* that is 99.9999999999% unlikely to happen too.

Fact is (I posted a link before for 2016): You are incredibly more likely to die in a car wreck than to die by a lightning strike. We don't ban cars off the road during thunderstorms. Again, if it was a hurricane or blizzard, then yeah of course.

You guys must play the lottery every day because you think "it's gonna be me this time".

If we are so worried about people's safety then why do we let people drive when there's rain/snow/thunder?

We had one actual drive in the first half, we sisnt wear anyone out except our defense.

When the gameplan is to out physical the other team, possess the football, wear them down to slow down the game then yeah having an almost 1 and 1/2 hour halftime tends to derail that plan. I think it was obvious they were starting wear down. The announcers said WVU didn't get a lot of coaching at halftime, they got a lot of rest. Meanwhile, rest would not have been the Vols problem.

If we manage a fg and hold them on the final drive I think 10-10 after the start we had would have been huge from a mental standpoint. Instead we botch the mo and give them a fg to end the half. We never responded to their push in the second half.

I don’t think the delay hurt us. The final score is different if the peel back block is called near the end of the second and we score on the fourth and goal near the end. WVU still wins 30-20 (22 if we got the two point conversion) in the scenario, but not as bad. The final score didn’t tell the story of the entire game, but I can’t take anything away from Grier and those receivers. Some of those passes were spot on.

Yeah, a shorter break, scoring from the 2, getting one of two blatant personal fouls on WV drive, plus the targeting, all could have tightened the game up. If we cut back plays of 25 yards or more down from 8 to 4 we would have had a chance at winning.

Woulda Coulda Shoulda.

Not our day.

And strangely he agrees with me, and disagrees with you. Weird.

It's a virtue of being willing to admit when someone says something in a good way whether you agree with them / their statement or not. I have that virtue, you obviously don't. It's a little thing called respect for others' opinions (even when you disagree).

I don't have respect for your opinion that the lightning rule is stupid; just because you have an opinion on something doesn't mean it automatically deserves respect.

Emphasis is usually needed when people are ignorant and/or only hear what they want to hear.

Where's your compelling discussion? Or you just a troll?

Actually repeating yourself is usually a sign of a very weak argument. And if you think you basically saying "I saw a thunderstorm and didn't see anyone hit by lightning" is "compelling", well that would explain why you can even came to the conclusion that this rule is stupid in the first place.

You do know what time of possession is right? Did you pay attention? First half we had the ball like 21 minutes to their (almost) 9 minutes. Tell me that doesn't wear a defense out. Getting over an hour break was big for their D.

Not saying that's why we lost but it helped them a lot.

And our defense was so well rested they gave up 40 points, 547 yards, and caught a break with that massive TOP advantage in the first half and the delay.

May just be that time of possession is a tad overrated.

Ok I never said you had to have respect for any opinion of mine or anyone else's. Just give me a compelling reason as to why. Which you hadn't done.

And yes, I would certainly think my individual opinion wouldn't shape an entire organization/country/etc. That's why we have voting and such. Doesn't mean I will (or you will) always agree with the results but at least we can discuss it freely.

The field announcer said that Pruitt spent the entire extended halftime coaching and making adjustments, while Holgerson settled his team down with food and watched some other games. I thought that was interesting.

From a psychological standpoint, the teams were sent two different messages. Holgerson's laid-back approach to the hour off said "We've got this, follow the plan through." Pruitt suffered from over-thinking and likely overloaded his players. Coaches can create confusion as much as they can calm down a team.

Pruitts "adjustments" sucked.

He had that game right where he wanted it going into half time with a one score game and then they effectively ended the game in the 3rd.

How many people have you seen (or even known of) that died by a lightning strike?

Repeting yourself is a sign that you have a compelling argument against something but people aren't listening. They are set in their ways and don't want outside interference.

I provided a link with STATS about lightning and motor vehicle deaths in the U.S. in 2016. You ignore it because it's against your viewpoint. That's a sign of weakness and ignorance.

The lightning delay is an incredibly stupid rule anyways. People are more likely to get ran over in a parking lot or in a car crash on the way to the game than struck by lightning. C'mon.

If this is the case it should be mandatory that all stadiums upgrade to closed-roof stadiums within 2 years. God forbid it rains or snows. Someone might freeze to death in the stadium if we let a team play during snow, ya know.

The only reason for this rule is profit. I can only imagine how much people spent on beer and hotdogs etc during over an hour intermission.

In fact, to protect fans safety they might as well not let anyone drink beer (might get a DUI after the game or die of liver damage suddenly), eat a hotdog (might have a heart attack from that extra boost of cholesterol), or eat popcorn (might choke accidentally).

Lightning kills 50 per year on average so it is not a stupid rule. If the NCAA rules on lightning even saves one live then the rule is worth it. It usually only becomes an issue at the beginning of football season so it's not like you have to deal with it for very long.

Sure thing.

I never said you *had* to have respect for others' opinions. I said there is a thing called "respect for others' opinions" but I didn't say you "had to have it" so don't take two separate comments and misconstrue them on purpose.

There is a little thing called respect. Clearly you lack it.
