The fact that Arch Manning is not even visiting UT...

Kind of funny that if he had just about any other last name he would likely only be a 2-3*. It is going to be a huge jump for him from HS playing 2a talent and coming to a big time program. Not saying his pedigree and ability are not there or wont be. I just cant see how playing 2a talent currently has him listed as a 5*.
I can't ride with you on this one. He has wowed at camps and they have played good competition. I believe he will go to Georgia if they dont win a National Championship in next couple years. I think he would like to be involved with the team that breaks their curse. If they won NC this season then I feel Ole Miss is likely the spot assuming they can tolerate Kiffin.

I totally agree with you on the ranking being inflated due to the name, but even if you play whatever the highest-a level competition is, doesn't mean you can't get over rated as well. See Harrison Bailey

People need to realize Peyton was the one who strayed away in the Manning family. Archie will go to Ole Miss, just like his father would have, his uncle did, and his grandfather did. The only way that’s not the case is if Kirby drops some serious cash on him, which we know he’ll try to do.
This is it…..

The Manning’s are not a Tennessee family….like you said Peyton was the exception to the rule, the black sheep if you will. Otherwise it’s an Ole Miss family through and through.

He don't need cash.

UT is not even a school that Arch Manning is considering...He is not even visiting UT. I think this shows where we are as a program.

There is no real reason for him to outside of his Uncle playing here. His other Uncle and Granddad were legacy players at Ole Miss. Archie and Eli signed off on the Kiffin hire at Ole Miss as a way for Arch to even considering going there. There was zero reason for Arch to ever consider Tennessee.

Chris Simms is a year older, freshman year was 99, Eli was a freshman in 2000. Simms signed his letter of intent to play for Texas on 2/3/99, and Eli announced his commitment to Ole' Miss on 2/7/99.

Tennessee was never a contender for Eli.
Eli redshirted in 99. Played as a redshirt freshman in 2000.

Not by anyone that matters.
For that period of time after the draft, most certainly from people that mattered. Of course if you consider yourself as someone who matters and NFL owners, brass and players as those who don't matter then I suppose you are correct. It's not like it was something that lingered for years and years. Elway experienced it as well when he did the same thing in 1983

Like John Elway? 😏

If you weren’t a Baltimore Colts fan, you didn’t lose an iota of respect for Elway. Same with any fans other than the Chargers concerning the Mannings. It’s called using your leverage…business thing.

Not necessarily. Most players go to the team that drafts them. Both the Elway and Manning families used their connections to arrange the trades because they didn't want to play for the teams that drafted them. Since it's extremely uncommon for that to happen and it comes off as a play by the privileged, many players look at it with disgust. Like I said, it's only a temporary situation. It really isn't a business thing.

Edit: Ask any NFL player and you will find out that respect from fellow players is most important. Much more so than respect from the fans.

Show me your proof that Elway and Eli weren’t respected. Never heard any gripes cept for those fanbases and talking head sportswriters riding a story. So “temporary” it was nanoseconds…at most. And Bo Jackson was another who didn’t receive one iota of grief when he ended up doing the “hobby” thing with the Raiders. Tampa Bay with the Culverhouse’s running the madhouse instead of Spanos with the Chargers is just different zip codes. No respect lost by anybody that mattered.

Up until he decides means UT has a shot. The new offensive scheme could make for a good selling point if CJH is able to get the pieces setup before his signing day.

It’s kinda ironic. I’m reaching a little, but Arch isn’t going to UT for many of the same reasons as Peyton didn’t go to Ole Miss.

I said it was temporary. They both certainly earned respect as players. My goodness
