The "f-bomb"...wow

You'll need it with Garcia trying to lead that team in between Keith Richards impersonations.

I hope Lattimore keeps his chinstrap buckled.

Oh, I know. I have seen plenty enough of Garcia to remain cautiously optimistic about the coming year rather than simply optimistic.

I have seen Coach Dooley drop F bombs as well as many other animated words. Should we tell him that is a no no in Neyland. People these days are too damn sensitive.

Let's talk about that. What are yall's thoughts on coaches that cuss?

Don't mind me, I'm just trollin.

I would have rather heard Phil say "....work like hell" or "....bust our ass" than his aww shucks approach. If he is a Christian man that's fine but as a fan it would have fired me up a little more & I'm sure it would most of the players.

if they said fornicate you, would it be that big of a deal? it's just a word. if you got kids at the game, just say, look son that is what I hope you don't act like. Chances are when he moves out and goes to games in the students section he will anyway. So your whole arguement is a waste of time.

I'll say this, when you come to a college football game (or any sporting event with extremely passionate/drunk/rowdy fans) know what to expect. It happens, deal with it. The student is full of kids. Yes, they are legally defined as adults, but, having only recently graduated from college and now being in professional school i can tell you it's not quite the same as "being an adult." college is their time get wild and raise some hell. I know I did it and I certainly won't condemn others for following suit. People really are overly sensative nowadays. And for the record, I almost never cuss let alone participate in chants of this nature, but I couldn't care less if others do.

I had no idea that people get their panties in a twist about simple expletives. It becomes apparent that none of the people all lathered up about cursing have ever worked for old German farmers. Those ol' fellas would teach you words and compound phrases that would peel the paint off your barn... and at the same time be deacons and elders in the local Lutheran church.

Nope, can't say I've worked for any German farmers lately.

Coaches cussing doesnt bother at all. Granted I'm a little biased. As a high school assistant coach I have been known to drop a few bombs in the heat of the moment. My personal line is never saying damn.

After reading some of the posts on this thread, I gotta say that I can't wait until we play Bama this Fall! I want a parking lot beat down (talking the score here) and then for the Vols to march back onto Bama's field with the Tennessee flag raised high. I want to break Saban.

I mentioned my disappointment about this in another thread, but i feel it needs deeper discussion.

Here is my thoughts:

I'm sitting there and our student section drops the "f-bomb" - I was shocked and embarrassed at the same time. Absolutely the most disgusting thing I have ever witnessed. Do we NOT HAVE ANY CLASS. I know what some will say...they, being bama, are nasty as well. That doesn't matter! I don't know if i have ever been more outraged and disappointed than I am now. I knew we were out matched, but for the life of me I didn't think we would be OUTCLASSED!

The "F-word" really makes you this upset? Here's guessing you're at least 60 years old and don't know what an I-phone is.

It's FOOTBALL! Do you not realize the coaches are down on the sideline (as well as the players on the field) throwing the so called "f bomb" around like it's going out of style?

:censored:

Yeah, I said it.

Coaches yelling it on the sideline is one thing. The student section chanting it where everybody in the stadium can hear it (men, women, and children alike), and then trying to claim innocence by saying, "Hey! We are just kids having fun!" is another thing.

Most non-military young people these days have no sense of decorum, and they are lesser human beings for it.

Dog packs often display better manners, but if that's who they want to be, it's still a semi-free country.

Those kids in the 70's really acted right.

Cursing has become significantly more prevalent...

I think that any coach who curses a lot is doing a disservice to himself. It is not effective as a motivational tactic. Kids tune out someone who keeps screaming at them.

It also displays a lack of self control. Mangino lost touch with his players in part because he was fat. No self control. A fat cussing coach is just a huge hypocrite when he is telling athletes to take care of their bodies, eat right and remain composed emotionally in the heat of battle.

I used to say swearing showed a lack of vocabulary, but as I've grown older I've learned that effective use of certain words may in fact show a more precise vocabulary that fits the situation better. A passionate leader who lets fly the right word at the right time may get more motivation out of his players than one who remains calm to the point of stoicism.

It helps if the adults in the world understand that.

The truth is that until they pass an Anti-Profanity law, you can be sure that people are going to curse and swear at nearly every sporting event. Its just something that happens...
