The "f-bomb"...wow

I mentioned my disappointment about this in another thread, but i feel it needs deeper discussion.

Here is my thoughts:

I'm sitting there and our student section drops the "f-bomb" - I was shocked and embarrassed at the same time. Absolutely the most disgusting thing I have ever witnessed. Do we NOT HAVE ANY CLASS. I know what some will say...they, being bama, are nasty as well. That doesn't matter! I don't know if i have ever been more outraged and disappointed than I am now. I knew we were out matched, but for the life of me I didn't think we would be OUTCLASSED!

Oh no! Here comes the morals police. Same thing as if you were walking in a mall and you hear someone using bad language. Regrettable, yes. Classless, yes. Do they have a right to do it? Absolutely yes. Getting upset and calling people out doesn't do anything but start a giant argument. Get over it and move on.

I was in the student section and I was a little embarrassed. I was hoping it wasn't showing up on national television. This would not have happened 15 years ago when I was teenager. The days of southerners not being as foul-mouthed as northerners are over.

Nice fans belong in the Pac-10. This is a nasty rivalry and you should expect some passion to be shown. I'd be pissed if they were glad Bama were in our stadium. Oh yeah I've got a feeling recruits want to play for fans like that. F*** Bama!!!!

If that is "the most disgusting thing you've ever witness" then you don't get out much.

it was loud and clear and it was very embrassing, we were classless to do this chant no matter who did or said what for that matter whatever the score was.

i am getting fed up with our ad and coaches and this does not matters any better.

Don't even get me started on that rap music and them baggy jeans

They were standing the whole game too.. what in the hell were they thinking

Uh...nope. A good many of the students departed as the 3rd quarter came to an end. The "whole game"....hardly.

edit: and FWIW, this isn't something new...the f-bomb thing. They do it when the mood strikes. Not the first time I've heard it this season. The folks that normally sit to my right and left had sold their tickets and somehow they ended up in the hands of bama fans. Nice folks and very respectful. When the chant went up, the first thing I heard was "real classy". I didn't comment, but hey...what could be said. It is what it is.

To me it really was no more classless or disrespectful than that "hey vols you just got the h3ll......rammer jammer crap that their ENTIRE fans do. That's jmo.

I hear this all the time and it's a load of crap. An educated person doesn't have to use that type of language, but an educated person can if they damn well please. Don't like it? Don't listen.

I think even uneducated people can put their fingers in their ears. People crack me up about how "unclassy" the student section is. I wish the whole stadium was this "unclassy" and it would be 4 times as loud. No sitting for Four Quarters and yelling the whole time. It it really weird sitting somewhere other than the student section this year since I just graduated. The looks people give you for standing up and yelling is comical.

I don't doubt that it happens, but I've still yet to see anybody get asked to sit down. We were up and down all night in my section and it was never a big deal.

One day, say 10 years from now and you possibly have kids of your own and have matured beyond your "college" years, perhaps you will have a better understanding of the indignant nature/reaction to this type of behavior.

No excuse, rivalry game or not, for that type of response from the student section. It can be chalked up to youthful exuberance, but is still classless and uncalled for.

Like I said, maturity will hopefully open your eyes on this subject. Stuff like that is funny to kids unfortunately, but when kids grow up, many change their tunes to what is funny.

Good Post.

Those chants have been going on for over a decade, guys. Probably longer, but I know for a fact personally at least a decade.

Oh ya: eff you, bama. Eff you too, sanctimonious blue hairs.

I'm 28, I'm a UT grad, I use the F-Bomb all the time. However, I have to admit it's embarrassing. For those of you who defend the "F--- You Bama" cheer by claiming that it happens at a lot of campuses, I ask you, should we not hold our school to a higher standard? Do you really want to be like those other handful of schools that do this? I'm not saying there is way to have the student section not say these types of things, but to me I think we're above these types of unoriginal, thoughtless chants. Growing up a Duke fan from Durham, the University of Maryland has always used these types of cheers at home basketball games when playing Duke and I have always thought how pathetic it was that this was a cheer. The even more pathetic aspect of this chant is that it is usually used when the home team is losing.

"F--- You Bama!!""F--- You Bama!!"F--- You Bama!!"" That sure shows them while they're in the Victory Formation and kicking our ass. Personally, I think if you participated in the chant then you are a f---ing moron.

Maybe people should be more focused on cheering for our team as opposed to cheering against the other.

one word sums it us - class

obviously this is not an issue with people, but it still is needed and last night the ut student section where anything but classy. the truth is the truth, sorry, deal with it.

Good gravy man....grow a pair. It's a UT/Bama game. What is up with all the wusses coming out of the woodwork? Now, if you were at a Cher concert and someone started the F U Cher chant....that would be classless. This is normal. Nothing to see here. :cray:

How long have you been attending UT/UA games??

Oh good grief! It's FOOTBALL...we can be "classy" when we are winning...if we are losing 41-10...to hell with class! I mean....people...It's FOOTBALL!!!...It makes idiots of all of us! Just wait...in a month you too will desperately follow 17 year old kids on their facebook page waiting for the next crumb...and you too will believe ridiculous rumors about how a friend's mom's next door neighbor dated the next 5*'s dad who told a secret source that he is totally going to commit to Tennessee...( but beware...he will end up at USC) and then, I bet, even you will drop the F-bomb! I learned to insert "F.U." Alablama into the song Sweet Home Alabama before I knew my ABC's. I have been at a Bama game where a UT fan was stabbed... seriously...stabbed! Now THAT is classy! I guess the tradition of the sport is supposed to be "classy" and "clean" and "bla dee bla" in theory...but it is FOOTBALL!!! Sometimes the lack of class makes it fun...really fun! And the truth is...I am a sweet mouthed southern bell who has white gloves and meets for tea...but when it comes to FOOTBALL.....I proudly say.....FU Alabama!!!:wink2: And my daddy would be proud!
