They're just setting us up for failure. We need to remember that this schedule is still very difficult and this team is still young. there's some experience, but youth is youth. 8-4 is what I'll be happy with.
who cares what you'd be happy with?
ESPN isn't pulling these predictions outta their behind. There are legitimate reasons for optimism. We have alot of young talent thanks to back to back top 5 recruiting classes. A potential superstar at QB. And we play in a down division and in a conference that just may be down as well.
Everything is saying Tennessee is in store for a big year. So please exucuse yourself if you're the type that likes low expectations.
You have a problem with 8-4?
Do you feel 8-4 is a failure?
That is PRECISELY what ESPN is doing.
Its not about 8-4 being a failure. Its about not FEARING high expectations. I want this team to be a national title contender. Not in 2016 or 17, BUT NEXT YEAR.
I just don't feel we need to be afraid to expect big things. Now that doesn't mean we should act like the sky is falling if we come up short. I simply can't stand the negativity of folks that want to continually set expectations at a minimum. IMO that is the mentality losers take. No one whose won a national title goes into the season saying the goal is 8-4. The goal should be to win EVERY GAME. period.
Then you and I see eye to eye.
For the first time in years, I have a real confidence in this team. I look at the schedule and honestly feel like they have a shot at every game. The only game I am willing to concede is the bama game and even with that one, if we get a few breaks, we could win.
You might hear from a few lost and pitiful souls here saying that when we lose a few, my expectations will turn to venom towards Butch. Don't believe the hype. Butch is the very reason for my elevated expectations. If we go 8-4, I can view that as improvement. That being said, Butch has assembled a team that we should expect victory every Saturday and that's exactly what I'm going to do.

It's funny we each have several different voices in our heads. There's the brash, confident, "you gotta have faith to achieve great things" voice that clamors for 10-2 (or better), and the cautious, too-many-times-burned voice that says, "take it easy sparky, let's don't jinx this thing, 8-4 would be plenty good, given the woods we've wandered in lately. There's the "I'm so freaking tired of losing to Florida ... Bama ... Georgia" voice that demands corrective action. And the "gotta show confidence for the players, should any of them peek onto these forums" voice that swears we can win it all in 2015.
All important voices, and all a part of each of us (well, most of us, I think a couple of you lunatics truly only see the world through a soda straw). Whatta ya gonna do, we are what we are: Tennessee Volunteers. For Life.![]()
While it'd be awesome to see us play at that high of a level in 2015, I'm gonna have to say pump the brakes just a little bit. 8-4 is still the realistic expectation IMO
