The Erik Ainge Show returns

What do you think Ainge is going to be now? How do you think he got that job? WMNL is a mouth piece for the UTAD, remember all those 2 minute appearances he had on the CBJ show? Do you think he will be anything but UT PC?

Pretty much already was on RTI radio. I texted into the show one day when he pretty much said Hurd was as good as Fournette and called him a homer. He responded on air and said "damn right I am". Tifwiw.

I could do that.. Never really listened to RTI, gonna have to give it a shot, I know that show after swain is terrible.. Thanks for the advice though..

RTI is solid. Daniel Lewis is a great guy and knows his stuff. We also feature others such as Nathaniel Rutherford, Patrick Brown, John Cave Osborne and others. M-F from 4-6 on 1180 AM or download the RTI app. There's my plug for today :salute:

I like his show until he starts acting childish. If he can get away from that, he will have a great show

That childish and high school locker room garbage is why I stopped listening to him during his last stint as a radio talk show host.

We will see if he can keep it together.

For those complaining about Eric's crude humor. You have to remember that a LOT of that was perpetuated by his co-host JayBay. If Eric is hosting by himself, I doubt it will be as bad as he won't have anyone to play off of. I like Eric mostly for how great he is able to break things down. He has a true gift in being able to do that to make the average joe understand things.

Ainge was all in with his co-host on the high school locker room banter. If he continues that garbage his time on the radio will again be short lived.

Which is why ex players usually don't do well in sports talk because of their inability to be objective.

So I take it you work there or something?

Love it! Just hope he stays honest like he was before and not another UT mouthpiece like the other shows!

Did you listen to him on RTI on Mondays and Tuesdays? He's toned that down considerably. People do grow up.

Cumulus is buried in debt from station acquisitions. They may not survive short of a reorganization that wipes out all of the equity and ownership is transferred to the bond holders.

Any idea who will co-host/produce with Ainge?

[I've been pushing a dream scenario with Brian Rice, but I know he has a day job]

I honestly don't know. I'm not familiar with WMNL. If he got brought in to carry water for Butch, I won't tune in.

Speaking of Swain, is he on vacation or something? SB Nation playing this morning.

Agreed

Ainge on RTI was completely different than Ainge with JayBay on the old TSR. He would still joke around some but he didn't go off on 2-3 minute tangents as a joke.

He had been doing 30 minutes with Will West on Monday's too. I thought that was odd since he would be on RTI about an hour later rehashing the same stuff.

I was going to quote Volman and say the same thing re: JayBay. I think he was as responsible as EA for the sophomoric humor on the old show.

He is a homer but if he truly believes things are going sour then he will say it. He didn't hold back on Dooley.

He does look at things much more objectively than the knee jerk "FAHR ERE'BBODY!!!" reactions we get on here.

For instance, he's been in Debord's corner all year but actually explains his reasoning when defending him. Doesn't mean he agrees with every single call, At least he can articulate why he thinks a play was good or bad in a particular situation.

Ainge typically does a very good job describing offensive schemes, alignments, processes and things of the like. But when push comes to shove, he'll lean more towards to Homer side of things.

Otoh, I think Swain does a very good job playing it down the middle. He's certainly pro-Vol as he should be, but if he sees something negative or a problem going on with the program, he'll call it what it is. And he won't say something ludicrous like "Hurd is better than Fournette".

I didn't mean to imply that Ainge isn't good and is a 100% homer.

I agree with most things he said, like your Debord example, and really appreciate the knowledge and expertise he brings. That being said, I'd appreciate all his opinions a little more if he didn't occasionally pull out one like "Hurd is as good if not better than Fournette". He also recently said that Croom had a great year....I just personally appreciate a little more balanced, down the middle approach.

I have heard bits and pieces but I am not convinced that he can control himself for three hours a day. And I suspect that he will be towing the company line for state run radio.

Hope I am wrong though because he does do a really good job on breaking down what goes on offensively and defensively.
