The effect of 107 thousand strong............

Neyland is a top-5 venue for college football, bar none. The amazing thing is that UK tends to play the Vols better at Neyland than they do in Commonwealth, generally.

During the series when UF was backed up on its own 1 was probably the loudest moment I have ever experienced in Neyland.

All that to say that the crowd does still get into home games.

I agree with the first comment, I was sitting on the third row and I don't think I could hear myself yelling. If we had actually made a play right there, we would have won the game and Neyland would have imploded on the spot.

**** you Bama echoed throughout the stadium when Coker got hurt and Bama fans started cheering. Even the bluehairs were doing it

Sorry. I think you are talking about about some other chants. This chant is actually my signature. I don't think this one is bad in nature, at least during the game. I remembered when we were doing this chant, I was confused why the chant was not that loud. I turned around, and found a lot of kids were actually not doing it. I understand girls are kind of shy (except drunk sorority girls), but a lot of guys were just standing there and trying to be cool. One guy stood right behind me, I asked him why he was not doing anything, he was smiling at me and shaking his head. I was speechless.

I know a lot of senior citizens complained about the chant, which led to the reprimanding letter from Mr. Hamilton. I heard that some people on the other boards said Neyland Stadium is not as loud as Tiger Stadium and Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Finally, I know why.

Not everyone wants to make their university appear on par class-wise with Florida and Alabama. I understand that in a gameday atmosphere, and maybe after a few drinks, engaging in a chant like that might not seem like a bad idea. However, it was a nationally televised game, and it made us look pretty classless. The last thing UT needs is to look like the unclassy team in a game versus Bama.

I think I got your point. Actually, unlike Bama fans, our Tennessee fans are classy, but against Bama is another case. I heard a phone call after the game from my friend's cousin. She's a Bama fan, and called in to yell, "Roll Tide".
By the way, I guess no one would be able to here that chant from TV, it was too "loud" to hear.

I am by no means a senior citizen and would not have participated in that chant. There is a certain line that fans with class should not cross. Being loud and chanting obscenities are 2 totally different things. I hate bammer as much as any UT fan should but that is not what the 3rd Saturday is about.

Agree completely...keep in mind too...there aren't just adults at these games. I personally do not want my children hearing this mess and believing it is ok...even if it is Bammer...JMO.

Not only that, but it's just not funny. It's not.

Kind of like yelling "sucks!" after opposing basketball teams' players are introduced. It just ain't funny, it's not original or clever in any way, and it makes us look like losers.

Loud is good. Obscenities are usually not good. Funny and original are good.

Thank you for your well taught class. Is doing that thing right? No, every sane person knows it's wrong. The problem is when I (as well as some others) was in the stadium, the whole thing changed. I am not trying to make ridiculous argument here. I just feel like I am still too young to completely control my emotion in the stadium. It would probably take me 10 years to learn that.

How has the morale among the fans been in the last few years? Maybe that would have something to do with the apparent drop-off in Neyland being as much of an advantage.

Under Zook the fans were clearly not as confident in the program, and, perhaps coincidentally perhaps not, we were pretty average at home over that time. Not surprisingly, many of our best wins came on the road (at UT in '02, at LSU and Arkansas in '03, at FSU in '04). When Meyer took over, however, there was tremendous enthusiasm, and in two years he's yet to lose in Gainesville.

It's not like we weren't cheering when Zook was around, but maybe there was some more subtle difference, or maybe it's as simple as our teams being better under Meyer. It's hard to say. Perhaps as the morale increases after bottoming out in 2005 Neyland will become more like the advantage it was throughout the 90s.

Maybe a win in the swamp in September will have a positive effect on the fans in Neyland when they come marching home. Whatdya think?

That would certainly help, although I think things are already starting to improve since Cutcliffe was hired.
You mean re-hired. You seem to have a good grip on football and reality for a gator fan (just kiddin about the reality thing). We all try to have fun talkin' sports here and welcome folks from other schools to join in on the conversation (well most of us do) so just take everything with a grain of salt around here and we should all get along...:p

I've been wondering why my blood pressure goes up every time I come on here.

When was the last big win we had in Neyland? We beat Cal and a Ron Zook-led Gators team. We've been a better team on the road, by far.
with you on that kptvol their is no such thing as home field advantage with the vols.

I made Zooks first game at Neyland and dispite having to sit through rain all game I loved the atmosphere and feel of the stadium..only complaint was that the seats were narrow and I was cramped in..but that is a common occurrence at all games I go to with my size.

Hey, ya know we have to squeeze the size of the seats in order to "cram" as many butts into the stadium as possible...

i think auburn's stadium is the worst about cramming people. their seats feel like half the size of neyland's
