The drive-by post game handshake

im shocked anyone on the inside of Tennessee Fandom would pick up on this. Not that it was a big deal, but some coaches are like Bobby Bowden..."folksy" and others are more like belichick (whom i love btw)..who just blow past...no interest in being friendly.

That's fine to do that i guess. I don't think Beamer was expecting that. Knowing him he probably wanted to tell Kiffin how good his team is going to be next year. But in the end, he'll get over it.

Belichick is a perfidious toad.

This post is an embarrassment. Kiffin didn't like the way Beamer ran up the score and probably thought some of the shots to Crompton unnecessary so he didn't try to mask his displeasure. I don't think Beamer has the rep of a nice person himself.

Haha, UT fans complaining about RUTS? And I thought this was a new era of UT football.

I saw the shake and wondered what the fanbase would think. Honestly, I didn't expect to see this many UT fans a little upset with it - I guess it proves some of you are still a little sane, despite all that orange. ;)

It didn't look good and the camera was on Kiffin's face and that told the whole story. I see some of you courting the idea that Beamer was the the cause for the short handshake but he looks more stunned than Kiffin does and Kiffin's attitude/look never changes. This is the South - not some beach community on the west coast. We are prided for our Southern hospitality and you'd really have to go out of your way to find a Tennesseean, which I am, that doesn't take pride in their southern heritage. It's really just more of the same from him.

But Kiffin is neither a Southerner or a Tennesseean. That's the biggest risk I see the SEC running with this big money play for top coaches... losing your identity. Not to say there's anything at all wrong with hiring someone from another part of the country, but if you really want the SEC to be known for "Southern hospitality," that will be hard to maintain while hiring coaches like Urban Meyer (Ohio), Lane Kiffin (Minnesota), and Bobby Petrino (Montana).

:lolabove: So wrong it's funny.

do you think it was because Beamer was up 3 touchdowns with a minute to go and still blitzing tryingto knock a senior QB out of the game???? i would have been pissed off too.

What kind of fans do we have? Who the hell whines about VT running up the score, which they didn't do IMO. We got beat, pure and simple. And who whines about about CLK not giving Beamer a bear hug after the game...... SO WHAT. Any of you whiny sissies complaining about Tech and the handshake can pass your man card up to the front of the class, YOU ARE DISMISSED!

You were still trying to pass, so we were still blitzing.

Man up, for christ sake.

You, sir, are as awesome as your avatar...

Typical UT fans. If you're up at the end of the game and not letting them run/pass on you at will then you're RUTS. No one thought that this is these kids' last game for months and, for some, the last of their lives. From where I was watching, had they wanted to run up the score they most certainly could've made it a lot worse. For goodness sakes, they downed the ball at the end of the game.

It's the end of the decade and another regime is in charge yet UT fans are still complaining about opponents running up the score. Here's a thought - do something about it.

You're right. Someone should lie about their health for sympathy.

I tried reading all of the posts in this thread but all the hillbillies with walmart computers wore me down after 20 pages. There was a handshake. Time to move on to next year.

see your a fan of Spurrier

Kiffin was ready to get a plan together for next year. The topic we should be discussing is how ESPN only managed to pan to the TN fans that were overweight and rockin mustaches...WTF? Come on people, we know it's biased but sheez they make us look as bad as WVU.

I've literally thought this while watching UT games in the past? Seems like they usually pan in on old, fat people...
I'm sure it's just a coincidence, but it did cross my mind.

I must be missing something. It's understandable that Kiffin would be ticked off at the end of that game. His team didn't get off the bus.

Outside the midwest, people do move. Most move south.

Get out and drive south some weekend. It will be an enlightening experience that could crush some of your stereotypes.

What? If the SEC is going to be known for "Southern hospitality" it's going to be due to our fans. And I doubt anyone really cares about that, anyway The SEC is known for being the best conference in football. That's what's important to maintain.

No, no, no, what's important is the post game coach handshake. It should be a minimum of 15 seconds done with eye contact and ideally a couple of man hug pats on shoulder with some intimate appearing words exchanged closely in each others ears...preferably at least 5 words from each coach. Both heads should nod to each other and a very visible to the eye statements like...'great game, your team played great, congrats on a fine season...' should be able to be lip read.

Did I miss anything?

This is one of the most stupid posts and threads in the history of Volnation...that's saying a lot!

The angle at which one extends the hand is an important signal. We need to pay better attention to that in 2010. :)
