He already done. He’ll make a lot of noise, but his politician days are over. He’s lost too many of his base since 2020, and he’s not attracting new voters en mass.

He can still take his cult followers who do actually worship him and walk away third party. That would guarantee a Democrat victory unfortunately. An ego that big wont go away quietly

Thought the large “protect the kids” contingent on here that is so prevalent in the threads about drag shows would have more to say on both DeSantis and Trump basically being called groomers. And not by those from the other side of the aisle.

Honestly, I could still see a situation where he gets the Republican nomination if the GOP repeats their 2016 mistake of running way too many other candidates against him.

Even if they don’t make that mistake, though, I agree with you. Trump’s ego is too way big to take the L and quietly slip away into irrelevance. He’s only happy if he’s in the spotlight.

There is only one way out. A United party leadership has to go to Mar-A-Lago and present Trump with a choice. He can bow out now gracefully and be fondly remembered as one of the greats right up there with Reagan and be celebrated for decades to come (even promise him all kinds of honors and naming stuff after him), or he can let his ego reign and risk crashing the party and handing power to the woke socialists, maybe forever. He would be cursed by conservatives of the future as being on par with Benedict Arnold. He can either be revered saint or cursed devil. Not that that kind of ego is even capable of taking the offer; but one could hope

“Fondly remembered as one of the greats”????? You can’t be serious. It is an absolute farce to mention Rump in the same breath as Reagan. A “great” President doesn’t get ousted after one term and get beat by an 80 year old senile doofus. That alone tells you how bad he was and the fact that 80 million people thought Biden was the best choice reinforces it. Trump was a national embarrassment. Sorry but that is reality.

I do agree that the Republicans’ only chance is to convince Trump not to run. He won’t win if he is the Republican nominee and if he runs as an Independent, that will split the vote and guarantees a Dem win. I could see DeSantis winning.

Trump is not a great man, far from it. I despise him as a man. But he had a great IMPACT and made a few great decisions, especially in holding firm on three excellent SCOTUS nominations. I think a lot of people don’t realize just how close we came to losing some important constitutional protections these last few years and how the SCOTUS is the only thing protecting us from woke hell while we wait to get control of the White House again. On that basis alone, Trump earned a spot in the Conservative book of heroes. And if Trump will be smart just this one time and go away quietly and support whoever the nominee is, he will retain gratitude and fame for just that one shining moment when he refused to fold and let the Dems dictate the composition of the court. Does that make sense I hope? Lousy people can occasionally do one or two great things. Trump did three. Don’t deny him that credit.

Your last sentence is IT in a nutshell. His ego won’t allow it. He can do no wrong as far as he’s concerned and thinks he’s brilliant beyond that of mortal men. I don’t think he would think twice about torpedoing the Republican nominee by running as an independent. It’s all about him

News down here is that DeSantis campaign asked the Tampa Convention Center hosting his governor reelection celebration to ban any guns, BUT to make sure it was not made known who requested it.
