The DeSantis containment thread -- all things DeSantis go here

If only the veto was for economic reasons…
Why do the Rays need that money for a new practice facility? This is a professional sports organization and they should be able to fund it themselves.

These players are also eventually going to start getting pissed off when all this wokeism affects their paycheck.

The Rays should be able to build that new practice facility with their own money. Right? I mean after all if private businesses can do what they want then they shouldn't be relying on government funds on top of that.

I absolutely believe professional sports teams should be using their own money to build their facilities instead of taxpayer's money BUT that is not the subject of this discussion. The subject of this conversation is whether the governor should be acting like a tyrant and retaliating against businesses with different political views than his.

Perhaps you should pose your question to our house and senate who approved the funding before our governor got his feelings hurt.

Also apply that same energy the next time government bails out a corporation or industry who “should be able to fund themselves”.

You don’t like goalposts on the 20 yard line?

Can you prove he retaliated? Or it could just be that he was unaware of these funds being provided and decided that this private corporation should have this large amount of government funds provided to them. Perhaps that was the reason for this veto. Plus this was not the only item that he vetoed.

The Rays should worry more about their own business problems like being 27th in average attendance in MLB. This is with them on pace to being a playoff team. Maybe they should also worry about what is occurring in their own backyard before virtue signaling and trying to be woke.

I have stated before that the government should not be bailing out large corporations or certain industries. The Tampa Bay Rays should be able to fund that facility themselves or maybe they could move to a city that might support them better and have an actual fanbase that shows up to their games.

So I am assuming you were against this as well. And against all these democrats who claim the NRA is an extremist organization. Right?

I've been to several Rays games this season and after the last one I was sent a survey. At 1st it was your typical questions (tickets, parking, concessions, staff, etc.). Then it started with the woke BS. "Do you feel the Rays offer an environment of inclusion?" and questions such as that. Sad!

They still have their BLM MLB sign in center field. Can we not all agree that BLM is simply an extorsion scam?

I'm not willing to go back 100's of posts to find out what this is about, but what exactly did DeSantis do? A short one sentence cliff note version will do.

His words make it clear it was not purely an economic decision. If he really didn't support the use of funds for private teams (I don't really either), then he should have just kept it at that. Putting in the part about activism just shows it wasn't his only motivate or at the least he was getting to stick it to team as a bonus.

After Rays decry shootings, Florida governor vetoes funding for possible team facility

“Companies are free to engage or not engage in whatever discourse they want, but clearly it’s inappropriate to be doing tax dollars for professional sports stadiums,” he said. “It’s also inappropriate to subsidize political activism of a private corporation. Either way, it’s not appropriate. But we were not in a situation where use of tax dollars for a professional stadium would have been a prudent use.”

The Rays are wanting a new ST facility. The state was willing to chip in $35MM. The Rays made a statement about gun violence and that they support some liberal anti-gun group. DeSantis told the Rays to suck it and they aren't getting the $35MM.

Good for him. He was elected to represent the people of Florida as a whole, and it looks like he's doing that.

So he is not subsidizing their lunch money...LMAO..Wait for it!

I've explained this but the corporatists of the group are engaged whenever a large corporation doesn't get their way.

So the elected legislature who sent the budget to him was not doing its job for the people of Florida as a whole?

Maybe they weren't. I would have zero issue with DeSantis vetoing the funds for the Rays facility if it had been for purely economic reasons, hell I would applaud him for it. But as you pointed out he did it in retaliation which just makes him a tyrant.
