IMO, this would be a smart move for us.
1. He knows the offense, so the playbook will be wide open. Any portal guy that we brought in would have to try to learn this offense with only fall camp to prepare.
2. He has the opportunity to win the job in an open competition. Competition is a good thing.
3. He already has a relationship with much of the team.
4. We wouldn't have to pay him "Nico" money which would free up resources to upgrade other areas of the roster.

He’s not winning in the SEC. Your back up has to be DJ Lagway or Gunner Stockton.

Him being the best of the 3 isn’t a good thing.

When he came in for Nico during the second half of the Miss. State game, I thought our offensive playing calling was much more aggressive and more similar to the '22 offensive play calling. I was worried our play calling would go ultra-conservative, but it didn't.

Correct. The offense felt more fluid.
Of course Gaston throws ints so that kills his mo.

No.

He transferred out because he was not in the future plans of being the starter here or even now with Nico's departure.

While as a reserve on Rocky Top, Moore had appeared in 14 games, including a career-high this fall with six games played in. In his opportunities off the sideline, Moore is 26-44 (59.1%) for 273 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. That includes being 16-27 (59.3%) this past season for 201 yards with a pair of touchdowns and picks apiece.

If you're just looking for a warm body then sure

The real case for Gaston:

No one's slick as Gaston
No one's quick as Gaston
No one's neck's as incredibly thick as Gaston
For there's no man in town half as manly
Perfect, a pure paragon
You can ask any Tom, Dick or Stanley
And they'll tell you whose team they'd prefer to be on

I see it differently. I think he transferred because he wasn't going to start over Nico. Nico is no longer here.
Correct. This is an unprecedented situation. And it’s not like there are a plethora of great options out there. Seems like a reasonable consideration

No sir. The Alabama game showed this level is way to big for Gaston. Gaston is a starter at the FCS or G5 level.
Yeah, I was at the Alabama game. He threw a bad pick for sure. On the other hand, he looked pretty solid in the Miss St. game. Maybe he wins the job over Merk or GMAC, or maybe he doesn't. I'm just not sure a 1-year portal rental will be able to come in and learn this offense from scratch over fall camp.

I was at the game. I watched him throw some really, really nice passes and walked away with a different appreciation for him. Unless he plays the way he did, that game had the vibe of watching it slip away but he did his job and in all honesty, the offense did look better. How would he look versus Bama or other top tier teams is debatable. Personally, I hate to see him leave

You can make the case all you want. It simply isn't going to happen.

He makes sense to have on-board, but he can't be the only QB you take. He hasn't been signed for a reason. His primary appeal is he knows the UT game plan.

It's purported Heupel thinks this is a play-off squad. If that's true, they're not looking for a Gaston Moore to lead the team.

If this is true, then UT needs to go all in a proven QB that can step in right away that can perform well in SEC play.

A tougher equation concluding spring practice, but yeah. We get to yell about being betrayed while hoping for someone to betray their team.

Sometimes you just gotta pee into the wind and wear PPE.
