The Case for Gaston Moore

A tougher equation concluding spring practice, but yeah. We get to yell about being betrayed while hoping for someone to betray their team.

Sometimes you just gotta pee into the wind and wear PPE.
I honestly don't have a problem with what Nico did because that is the world of college football right now. Not sure if it was entirely his decision or a combination of handlers along with family. The decision was a poor one though and plus, he doesn't appear to have any leverage with any school when it comes to dollars moving forward. Snagging another QB that wants to get more money to potentially play for UT is the current landscape of college football. This NIL stuff has changed the game big time.

I don't either. It wasn't the smart thing in his case, but we all have the right to be dumb in our careers.

If he cant find a place to start, i think bringing him back has value.

Since he knows Heupel's offense better than any other player, having him on the roster would be like adding another coach. And a coach who can workout with the rest of the QBs over the summer when the coaching staff cannot.

I have yet to figure out what people saw on the field that would warrant a second look at him.
Ideally, we would want Merk to develop and claim the starting job. Moore's value is having knowledge of our offensive scheme. We could bring in a highly rated portal guy, but how much of the offense is he going to be able to grasp with only fall camp to work with?

you bunch of smucks who are ragging on Gaston must not remember what one young QB Daryl dickey did for Tn back in the day. Errbuddy said he was not good enuff. He saved the day/season after Tony robinson got hurt because he knew the system/plays.

bring back Moore!
Smucks lol

And no to Moore.

I think Gaston is a great QB in this system. I also think the 2 freshman have great skill sets and brain matter to run Huepels system. Can any of them lead us to thru an SEC schedule and on to the playoffs, no way. I thought Nico played as well as expected first time thru the conference. Expectations were low. Without the best running back in the SEC we would not have sniffed the playoffs.

What realistic options do we have that are obviously better?
15 days to find out, but it's not a binary choice. Moore could be brought in to work with Merk/Mac during summer voluntary AND we could look for an actual starter. I agree with the poster stating ideally Merk would earn the job but if you can get a guy that puts you into better position to win, you take him.

I disagree with those opining it's impossible for a seasoned starter to come in, learn, and be a better option by fall kickoff.

This QB decision this season not just at the start will give the fans a better idea of why Heupel makes the big bucks. He's going to face hard times this season. The next season as well if we don't perform well using both Merk and GMac and he doesn't get a superstar that can come in and start. There is a ghost of Guarantano possibility out there.

We may be looking for 2 qbs in the portal, so Gaston would be a good one to add. I can see him as a GA and the next QB Coach at Tennessee

The longer this goes, I absolutely think this might be the most viable option. If you swing and miss at a few guys that you believe can come in and start, bring Gas Pipe back as a depth piece. He already knows the offense, familiar with everything we do. Won't have to spend much to get him. Could potentially get another OL, CB, or WR impact player with the funds vacated by Nico.
