Unfortunately, the basketball program doesn't have the money to break the bank for their next coach. If only there was a proven X&O's coach who could fill the stands overnight and could be had for cheap.

Right, I don't see us spending more on a basketball coach than a football coach.

This ^^^. We will either have to give CBJ a raise if we want to hire a proven HC or we are going the mid-major route again. I really think you can get Smart for around $2.2 million, which would be a million dollar raise over what he currently makes at VCU and pay CBJ 2.5 and that is not unreasonable.

Bruce Pearl is 54 years old as of next month and coming off a 3 year show cause penalty from the NCAA...If he is interested in coaching again it is unlikely that he could do much better than Tennessee. It is not like he was very popular within the profession even prior to the show cause penalty (hence why it took him so long to get a shot with a major program in the first place). What is he going to do if he does get an offer from Tennessee? Turn it down so he can continue working for HT Hackney and ESPN on the weekends? I find that hard to believe.

If UT doesn't rehire him, Bama, SC, or Georgia are all lining up to hire Pearl, they are tired of losing.
