Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

Probably $0 millions. I doubt they had to buy out anybody because they were fired with cause.

And it's not Pearl's fault they failed to hire someone who was good enough to fill the seats and put a winning product on the floor.

I'm not arguing that Tennessee "could" hire someone who might perform at the same level as Pearl. My argument is that Pearl's performance is a known commodity, he's available, and he lives in town.

UTAD paid Pearl just under $1 million to go away.

It's one of the biggest fallacies in this thread. I think it's pretty clear that Cuonzo sucks. I also think it's clear that it would be dumb to rehire Pearl.

I'm pretty sure the majority of Vol fans want Martin replaced by someone other than Pearl. I like Pearl, but I don't know if he could catch that magic again.

UT has had a basketball team for over 100 years and some of the most exciting times were the 6 years Pearl was the coach. As a fan, it's fun going into every game you play thinking you can win. We had that under Pearl. Under the coach before him (Buzz) and after him ( CCM) I go into every game wondering what the coach is going to do to lose the game.

It was fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the Pearl Era till the last year. Too bad he ****ed up and ruined it.

He had his time. It was fun. But he's no longer the answer.

Just at UT? He 2nd all time.

Doesn't mean he should be hired.

I know and my other post stated he was top 10 at UT. That is what I was referring to and I agree that should not be a reason to simply hire him without consideration to other candidates. However, would you flame Hart if he chose to hire Bruce back if he was the best candidate after all the interviews? I think if we did not consider him at all would be ludicrous and a mistake on the University. Someone will hire him, and they will win. Whether it is us is to be determined. As another poster stated, we must fire Martin first and then let the rest take care of itself.

Bruce also can be reinstated after the sanctions are gone, which is a clean slate as far as we are concerned. He lied about bringing a Junior to a BBQ, which isn't enough to not consider him if he wants to come back. It would not hurt our program or perception IF he starts out the gate winning again.

It wasn't just the damn BBQ. He committed more than 100 violations of improper contact with recruits.

Yes because Hart failed at his job.

Look, if Pearl went to the NBA and got fired , had health concerns, needed a break, etc. then I would be perfectly fine bringing Bruce back.

But that is not the case. There's too much baggage with him for him to be a serous candidate.

The BBQ was the straw. Everyone commits these violations. You just don't LIE about them and take the slap on the wrist. I'm sure Coach Cal's violations are uncountable, but do you think that bothers UK fans? All that matters are the wins.

Excellent reply and I respect that. We can agree to disagree but that was a solid answer. :peace2:

There seem to be 3 sanctimonious posters that obviously aren't into forgiving people for their transgressions. Seems the other 30 or so posters do believe in forgiveness . Basically, if we are willing to forgive someone for lying we can have a coach that once again makes us relevant in basketball and get back to e Big Dance, Elite 8 and challenge for the SEC championship. Let's do it!

It's not about forgiveness even. It's the risk involved. You are making an illogical assumption Bruce will never do anything wrong.

No one on this board (well that I know of) has an opinion on the matter that is worth anything. We can forgive all we want and it won't change a thing.

Pearl was doing exactly the same thing that got Kelvin Sampson a year-long ban from off-campus recruiting when he was at Oklahoma.

And you are making the assumption that he will. What's to say any other coach they hire won't do anything wrong? I would say we have a better chance with Pearl walking a fine line since every thing he does will be scrutinized vs. A new coach.

Back on topic, my stance still continues as follows: If we fire CCM, which is a likely possibility, the next step will be interviews. If Bruce is the most qualified, then Hart must also weigh the possibility of taking Bruce with the baggage that comes with him. If our options are Bruce versus some no-name person, or reinstating CCM, the choice is obvious for me and will most likely be for Hart.

That's what our compliance office and a good lawyer is for.....I don't care who we hire but if he goes to Georgia and they start kicking our a@@ bc of some kind of ethical stand. I'm going to be one pissed off UT fan.

Yes. Because he has.

They might not but at least we can hire someone who doesn't have a history of lying.

And I'd rather not have the NCAA breathing down the back of UT's neck.
