Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

you guys have fun with this debate - i have other matters to attend to....

the bottom line is that Pearl will not be "hired" to coach college bball until his show cause expires in august 2014. but if he so decides then we will see him back coaching again. the guy is a winner - plain and simple - and will win again at another program if gets back in the coaching profession.

I agree with that. That was my point. Any school hiring Pearl before August 24, 2014, is opening themselves up to be hit with penalties and I don't think it is worth the risk. I think he will be the hottest commodity in the NCAA come spring 2015.

the other bottom line is that CBP is/was a much better coach than CCM has ever thought about being and his has a lengthy resume that proves it.

Dear god, how has a sticky not been made for this in 3 years?

Beats me. Anyone with common sense would know that the University would never bring back someone who left under the circumstances that Bruce left. I loved Bruce while he was here but you can't bring him back.

i will say this one last time.

the penalty that the hiring institution receives is the penalty that was given to the coach they are hiring. technically we would need to see the actual show cause order that was handed down to determine the full extent of the penalties. those would be the penalties given to the hiring school.

You can keep saying it but you'll still be wrong.

I linked the NCAA's article on it. You can choose to ignore it if you wish.

Pearl has restrictions that exist until August 23, 2014. If a school hires him, he still has those penalties. They don't go anywhere. They could face additional penalties.

You can keep saying what you are saying but you are wrong. I never said CBP's penalties went anywhere - I said and continue to say that they follow him where ever he goes. Those are the penalties that the new school faces and could face additional severe penalties should pearl violate the terms of the show cause or for any other violations for that matter.

Patrick,

The ncaa link is working now....

Pearl handed three-year show-cause | NCAA.com

It's the same as the cached version though. Weird that you said it didn't say the following quote:

The show-cause order means that Pearl is prohibited from engaging in recruiting activity for three years at any NCAA member school. Any school wanting to hire him must go before the NCAA to explain why and could face penalties.

It doesn't say that.

Does anyone else remember Jimmy Hyams interview of Pearls future that he released the day before our game against Michigan in the NCAA tourney? Amongst the most classless things I have seen a radio station, or AD, ever do to their hometown team

He's been successful for sure. But I think you also have to consider that part of being a good coach is staying eligible to coach.

To this day, I've never understood the timing of that.

Can't remember, too old, please share.

Was listening to a local sports radio program last week and that same question came up. One of the guys that was instrumental in letting Pearl go, is still at U.T. and before Pearl got re hired, he would have to give his blessing.

It is highly doudtful that he would agree to re hire Pearl after he was instrumental in letting him go in the first place.

Also, Martin will get us to the N.I.T. this season and we will lose in the 1st round. He will remain one more season and 2015, he will be fired. By the time Martin is fired, Pearl will already be at another school.

So, the timing is not good for him to get to U.T. again and there is one person who would likely block him returning to U.T. again.

So much dingus in this post.

Our idiot AD pretty much said in an interview that Pearl was being fired the day before we played in the NCAA tournament. Our team had no fight in it and we lost by thirty the next day. If you want to fire the man, u do it professionally and not sabotage our team.

Staying eligible within the context of the current NCAA? That really isn't saying much to be honest considering how arbitrary, feckless, and asinine the NCAA is.
