I wonder if we have anyone at least ready to admit that the punishment bruce got in wake of Ohio St, PSU, USC, etc is far too much for what he did?
His punishment wasn't for the violations he committed, it was because he lied over and over to the NCAA. If he would've been smart and admitted everything from the start he'd have gotten a slap on the wrist like the schools you mentioned. The reason he didn't get a slap on the wrist and why he's no longer on the sidelines is because he thought he was smarter than the NCAA and could lie to them.
But Jim Calhoun maintained that UCONN did nothing wrong and all the punishment went to an assistant.

Tressel lied to the NCAA and his staff didn't get what Bruce's did. Bruce did not deserve a 3 year show cause. I don't see how anyone can even try to argue that. If Chip Kelley doesn't get even a 2 year one (which doesn't even really exist since he's in the league now) how can you justify Bruce getting 3?
It's not really a big deal anyway though, as we can see in football medie recently, the big conferences are sick of the NCAA. If they don't change the majority of what they do, then there will no longer be an NCAA to worry about. And it may not matter even if they DO change.
