I'll bet anything you want he will not be coaching in the SEC next year. Like I said, Slive will let SEC ADs know what they'll be up against if they do.
Slive had a big part in why Hamilton dropped Pearl and didn't try to fight the NCAA like you see a lot of schools doing.
When Slive starts messing with schools over their internal decisions he will shown the door.
Slive is not all powerful and can be replaced.
I don't agree. Slive is extremely powerful. Sure...he can be replaced but he'd have to be consistant in making coaches and ADs mad. Tennessee is a bottom feeder in both major sports. No one would care.
We are a founding member and are far from bottom feeders.
Look I agree Pearl isn't coming back to the Hill, that would be a UT decision and UT's alone.
Slive will not step in to stop a member institution from hiring Pearl! For Gods sake look at UKs coach and his baggage!
No one is saying Slive WILL step in and stop it. He doesn't have that authority, but he can strongly discourage it, and does have the power to make any school fight a continual uphill battle as a result of hiring him. You can also rest assure that any school that hires him will get nothing more than token support from the SEC in matters of scheduling, NCAA matters, etc.
You don't defiantly piss off the commissioner of your conference.

Slive is retiring in a year or two, you do understand this right?
Not to mention this is not the NFL or other pro league, hurting a member school only hurts the conference.
Haven't received my invitation to the retirement party, so no, I was unaware.
Hurting a member school keeps your other member schools in line. Sometimes you have to eat one of your own to demonstrate your authority to the others.
So, now we're going to sue the SEC so we can hire a known NCAA rules violator? Look, I really do understand wanting to bring back a proven winner, but think about how absolutely Dungeons n' Dragons nuts that scenario is.
Why does everybody have such a hard time understanding that Cuonzo's coaching ability and Pearl having no chance of coaching at Tennessee again are two separate issues?

I get your point in general that hiring a 'NCAA rules violator' wouldn't look good, but I don't really think it holds much water when you look at the rules he violated.
I really don't understand why having some kids over to a BBQ and then lying about it is such monstrous offense that Pearl's re-hire would be suicidal for Tennessee Athletics.
1) It was a BBQ at his house. Not exactly the same as making it rain dollars on recruits and providing them 'escorts' so they can run around town all drugged up like hellions.
2) Yea, he lied about it. But I ask you this: who wouldn't lie about such a small offense? Especially when you are trying to protect your job?
As far as offenses go, I would say that the BBQ was minor, and that lying about it to protect your job is understandable.
He did his time and he should be given a second chance if he wants one. Given that the offenses were relatively minor and he paid the price, the NCAA would most likely view it in a similar light and wouldn't hold a grudge against Pearl or Tennessee.
