Shula only coached Bama from 2003-2006 he got an extension of 6 years in 05’ after the 10-2 season. He didn’t come back in 07’ Saban came in and they paid Shula 4m to leave Tuscaloosa.
Unfortunately his buyout plus staff would probably net like you said 19-20 some odd million. I just want some decent UT football back. I really really don’t want to eat more cornbread next year; it’s stale and outdated.Exactly. 4 years as I noted and his buyout was small.
Isn’t Pruitt’s >$12M and the staff closer to $19m? Did you start a GoFund me? I will do at $20 to it.

We are not firing because we do not have good options for the replacement. No one at UT is happy with Pruitt’s performance.
BS...it’s about choosing to win...or not. Good Ol’ 3-7 Phil showed us his priority.
Because this kind of thing happens all the timeI’m going to post this in a new thread BECAUSE it shows how a school (and the powers that matter) got so tired of losing that they checked their egos and made the right move.
Tennessee power brokers are like Jerry Jones right now...they only want to win if it is on their terms.
Ridiculous!
38 Days: How Alabama Pulled off the Great Heist of Nick Saban
Don’tWhen will there be a good option?
Offer $7M to Campbell. Cheaper than more buyouts.
Freeze is better
Herman is better. Texas doesn't want him and he doesn't want them. Take page out of tam/dabo playbook
Obrien is better. He interested in college?
There is a coach out there somewhere that can come here and make TN competitive again.
It just shows that the winners write the history. Mal Moore may have been a good salesman, but he was also a desperate guy with a checkbook who had things fall in his lap. It took Alabama 3 coaching searches to get from Bryant to Stallings. Then it took them 5 searches to get from Stallings to Saban. They finally got it right, but there’s nothing really special about their process other than throwing cash and a little luck.Because this kind of thing happens all the time
That wasn't a small buyout at the time. Saban's 4 million a year contract at that time was almost 2x more than the highest paid coach in the country at the time. Coaching salaries and buyouts have boomed in the last decade with two mega tv contracts.
Luck and patience. If the Alabama admin had taken the road that most on VN want our admin to take then Saban would not be at Alabama. 90% of Bama fans wanted him fired after Fran went to A&M. Reminds me of another fan base in the SEC calling for the AD’s head.It just shows that the winners write the history. Yeah but they both coached their teams longer then 3 yrs. Shula had a 10 win season but he was 4-9, 6-6, & 6-6 in the other 3 yrs plus they got put on probation. Gus was at Auburn for 7 yrs and was pretty successful which tells u he didnt get fired bc of his record their problem is probably much deeper.Well Mal Moore understood Mike Shula wasn’t the answer for Alabama. Just as Phil Fulmer should see that in Jeremy Pruitt. People also tend to forget Shula went 10-2 in 2005; followed by a 6-7 year in 2006 and lost his job. Yes folks Mike Shula lost his job for a six win season....Gus lost his job for a six win season. Some on here are totally content with less than mediocre and a six win season. I know we hate Bama, and Florida; but when they see the writing on the wall at least they have the balls to pull the plug.
Short answer, big money but no leadership. UT football is second to personal importance and ego. They have systemically destroyed the brand that was the power T in football. But that is what it takes for any organization to be successful...a real leader with a real vision and commitment to success. Why can’t UT have someone like that?
Urban MeyerWhy the hell cant Fulmer pull on his big boy britches and be Mal Moore.
I see two feasible coaches out there that I think could knock it out of the park (Campbell and Freeze, in that order). Are the politics at UT and boosters such that you can’t make it happen? If so, WTH can’t it be so?
Bama had been thru similar but not as long losing, but did what it took. I think three things. First, if not for covid, and we had a similar record, he'd be gone. Second, I think covid casts enough doubt (excuse) for Fulmer/UTAD not to have to pony up $$$. Thirdly, if Aub (who's been nowhere near as dysfunctional as UT), is having their go at their version of UT's 3 ring circus, what do you think UT's would look like this time? I think everyone's out of sync b/c of covid, and there's a high potential they'd make matters worse by a change. Waiting until next year to vet a coach (line up behind the scenes) may be the best option...especially keeping talent on the team w/o major exodus. I'm starting to think the best option is to wait for an NFL coach w/ college experience to come on the market, similar to a Saban or Spurrier, who just didn't jive in NFL. Not sure who, but I'm tired of us going after google coaches and thinking things will change.Well Mal Moore understood Mike Shula wasn’t the answer for Alabama. I hope people that read this see Schiano was on the list then as a proven head coach that had 10 wins at Rutgers and he was hired and we was mad because it wasn't Gruden ( I mean because he worked at Penn St) but a proven head coach that knew how to rebuild a program but we ended up with a rookie head coach.I’m going to post this in a new thread BECAUSE it shows how a school (and the powers that matter) got so tired of losing that they checked their egos and made the right move.

Don’t
Know about about Campbell and O’Brien, I will have to refresh my memory on them. Freeze and Herman are not good enough options to pay Pruitt a 20m buyout. Freeze is not coming anyway, not just here but to any SEC school. The bottom line is we would struggle to find anyone to come this year just like Auburn is struggling now. Auburn is a better program than UT and look what they are going thru. I don’t like it either. It’s just sad a thousand times over.

I can get behind an NFL caliber coach. I just UT to focus on one bleeping thing and that’s winning college football games that mean something. Such as Alabama, Florida, and UGA.Bama had been thru similar but not as long losing, but did what it took. I think three things. First, if not for covid, and we had a similar record, he'd be gone.
