The Blueprint

I will continue to say this... Drew Brees going to New Orleans and not Miami is the single biggest free agent move in the history of College Football. The Butterfly Effect from that has had a monstrous impact on the game and in particularly the University of Tennessee.
That and Pete Carroll to Seattle pretty much buried us for a decade.

Probably. According to DP Freeze sabotaged our recruiting with Michael Oher because we were not generous enough.

So? He was the head coach of another school, doing his job and recruiting a good player. SEC recruiting isn’t for the pure of heart no matter what school is involved.

So? It shows why Fulmer and UT administration would not consider him and why it may be very difficult for Freeze to get another P5 offer. I think another phrase DP
Used was most schools thought he had “crossed the line” with his antics.

And many thought the same thing about Fulmer with the Alabama fiasco. Get over it. This is big boy football.

Lol. What do you mean “Get over it”. I think your missing the context of my post.
It doesn’t bother me at all. I was just responding why Freeze is unlikely to be considered as a HC here.

I remember seeing Pete Carroll taking the Seattle job around Christmas time and not giving it a second thought because I didn’t think they would make it all the way down the list to Lane. And then even KIPPY BROWN MADE IT TO SEATTLE!

“They” should get over it...especially Fulmer. It is especially rich for him to get his panties all bunched up given his recruiting past IMO.

It’s not just Fulmer. Read Deerparks posts and argue with him if you disagree. That’s where my info came from. I have nothing vested in this topic.

Freeze was the high school coach that got taught how to coach by Oher's step mom

I’m going to post this in a new thread BECAUSE it shows how a school (and the powers that matter) got so tired of losing that they checked their egos and made the right move.

Tennessee power brokers are like Jerry Jones right now...they only want to win if it is on their terms.

Ridiculous!

38 Days: How Alabama Pulled off the Great Heist of Nick Saban
Nick Saban praised the hire of Pruitt knowing Pruitt would be a lousy coach an provide no competition for Alabama!

The University leadership, boosters, etc. need to decide what they want and then make it happen. If they won't pony up the cash or make the hard calls, then they have made the decision. We already know how they feel. We've seen it play out over the last 10 years. They care, just not that much. UT keeps calling me and sending me emails asking for money. No more money. No more anything until they show some discipline and unity … and make decisions that will posture the program for success over the next decade. Right now, we are stuck in a rut with no end in sight. Sad, but true.

I agree it’s the proper blueprint but even then who’s the target? The only one I can think of is Urban and I don’t think we can afford him right now.

OK, I hope you are not wanting to vacate the position without an executable plan in place. Name the legitimate candidates that we have reason to believe have enough money guys behind them to pull it off.. Make no mistake in the year of the COVID these guys will have to kick in more than usual to get it done. I don't see a candidate much less a list. The higher the profile the more money it will take. I don't see a consensus of money guys backing an NCAA cloud so please do not include Freeze. We went down the THIS IS TENNESSEE we can get a guy road post CPF and have been paying the price ever since.
If the money guys won't back Freeze we need new money guys. The whole problem stems from the so-called money guys caring more about their own egos and their criteria for a coach than the actual reality of who the best coach we can get happens to be. We can get Freeze; if their egos, or self-righteousness, or any other b.s. stand in the way of that, they have no business being a part of this program because they're just destroying it through their own arrogance and stupidity.

Read Deerparks posts on Freeze. I think the words used were “overrated” and considered “poison” by most P5 schools.
So now I'm supposed to form my opinion based on what Deerpark says? If that's what Deerpark says about Freeze, he's an idiot and a liar.

It's pretty simple: make a list of all the coaches who have beaten Saban twice in a row. Now make a list of all the coaches who have put a team into the top 25 in only its third year in D-I.
There's subjectivity, and then there's indisputable evidence the denying of which just makes one a craven liar. Anyone who denies Freeze is one of the best coaches in the country, and far, far and away the best coach we have had a shot at in thirteen years, is a liar, plain and simple.

Read his posts and determine yourself
Or take it up with him yourself , Mr. Hugh. Most people respect his posts and I have been reading his posts for about a week. Seems like he provides solid information IMO

They care, but have different ideas how and who to fire or hire. From reading what everyone has posted here, there are simply large divisions/factions within the Administration and Donors.
Edit:! sorry just repeated most of your points. I guess you could say they don’t care since they will not agree to the same plan.

I have questions about how a university goes about obtaining a consensus among the chancellor, president, BOT and donors for firing/hiring coaches. Who is the individual/group who officially implements the change. I’m sure the donors do not officially approve and if they objected would just threaten to reduce their contributions.’

Napier is a better candidate than Freeze and it’s not even close. Just my two cents.

Demanding character is not a character flaw and they get to spend their money just like all the folks on here that have threatened to withhold their money if they don't get their way. You go line up UT some rich folks that believe like you do and happiness can be yours.

BS to your BS. If you want an exceptional coach the AD needs to make it happen... fully agree. To tell them you must do it by year 3 is too short. No one of substance will bite on that.

FYI. Phil’s priority got us 1 natty. The University and AD got us 15 years of sucking.

They don't have to be SEC Champs by year 3 but they don't get to be blown out by first year HC's at Arkansas or by 4 td's to UK inside Neyland either. In 3yrs they need to show some semblance of progress. Not having players jump ship, 13 different assistant coaches, and everyone in the admin and university hating their guts because they're pricks all while they lose every week by 3-4 TD's ... that's not stability. That is not progress.
