Great post... and people are complaining.
Seriously. I'm not saying I know how Heupel will automatically work out but this is easily our best hire on paper since Majors. Other hires:
Fulmer. Unproven OC.
Kiffin. Failed NFL coach.
Dooley. Failed G5 coach.
Butch Jones. Semi-successful G5 coach.
Pruitt. Unproven DC.
Heupel's probably the most accomplished of the entire bunch. He's had some of the best offenses in all of college football for the past 3 years and had a great track record as OC and QB coach before that. If he gets Jeff Lebby as OC (which isn't a sure thing), we'll probably have the best offensive staff in the nation. If we keep Kevin Steele as DC, we'll be in great shape with the staff.
No, things won't be turned around in Year 1 or even Year 2, with all the crap disadvantages the new staff will have to start with (transfer portal, potential penalties), but this is a reasonably good hire and a "great hire" by "Tenesseee over the past 2 decades" standards. One thing I do like is that Heupel is likely committed for the long-term; he didn't come here with the current situation to just be here for 2-3 years.
Feel like Battered Vol Syndrome is taking over for some on here. No, it's not a "Home Run Hire", but it's a solid double and maybe we get lucky in 3-5 years and he'll round home plate. At a bare minimum, this is a big upgrade at HC.
Freeze beat Saban whoop de do then followed it up by losing by 3 TDs to Memphis....and didnt even have a winning SEC record...there is a reason that NO ONE in the SEC wants him as a HC and he will never even get a sniff at itAnd beat Coastal Carolina with Liberty, beat Saban twice. Sounds like big wins to me. So you would rather "cheat" and "pay" players to go 3-7? Every school pays the players. Get off the high horse.
He’s kept the momentum going? He just went 6-4 and several UCF articles were talking about him fighting for his job in 2021 .
a one off year doesnt mean anything in the grand scheme of things...and even then he was competitive in every loss and scored more than 30 pts more often than notYeah, he was worse than the last guy but his record was still good, etc. I heard all of this with Butch. I prefer a guy that left his team better than he found it, but that’s a personal preference
In our world it isIf he seriously was fighting for his job, why would White hire him again after having the benefit of hindsight? He went 6-4 in a COVID year, with some very close losses. Make that a full season and add back non conference games, and it’s an 8/9 win season. We just went 3-7. In what world is that a bad season?

Carnival barker who choked on gameday in spotlight moments. Treated the AD department like dirt and also publicly humiliated players. White is one of the sharpest AD's in the US and he is tying his wagon to him. Having watched this team for the past 10 years and knowing how both treat individuals inside over at UCF, they will be welcomed with open arms on the hill. 6-4 should have been 8-2 and they also had 10 opt out for covid this year. He will immediately attract 5 stars on offense ( and also actually develop 3 and 4 stars). The key will be defense and overall recruiting/ncaa issue. We will not have to worry about game plan or calls with 2 minutes to go like we did with the past 3 coaches.Butch Jones had a much better track record than Heupel does
Heupel is a below average recruiter, has never built a program and was fired as OC by his alma mater. I would say Heupel is the WORST hire we've ever made. We'll be lucky to be bowl eligible most year and finish middle of the pack in the SEC East. This guy is a goober.
Bro when the entire fan base at his last job is haply he is gone, that is not a good sign... consistently got worse with a fully loaded talented team. What makes you think he is is going to be able to recruit here and build success when he couldn't sustain it at his last place? What a bunt of a hire.
