The best and worst field goal kicker in TN history

While Lincoln was probably one of the worst. I cant smack talk him. In my opinion going to BUD/s and earning a SEAL trident trumps anything one done in college football.

How in the hell does an extra point get blocked without it being the kickers fault? I was at the game and haven't bothered to watch a replay, so I could be wrong, but not giving Lincoln the benefit of doubt.

Um bad blocking?

Hall kicked arguably the most clutch field goals for UT, game winners at Syracuse and against UF

Jeff Hall is hands down the best in the clutch beginning with his game winner in 1995 vs Georgia as a freshman but only 61-89 overall for 68.5% and in 1996 had one of the worst seasons for any Tennessee kicker ever. He was 10-18 including 3 misses against South Carolina that were all less than 45 yards and he missed and extra point against Alabama that kept the score within a TD on Bama's last drive. He didn't miss many extra points but they were always at the worst possible moment including the BCS Championship Game vs FSU...He also missed a 27 yard field goal vs UCLA in 1997 from the middle of the field that kept them in the game and his game vs Florida in 1995 was a disaster. He had a low extra point blocked after Tennessee's 2nd TD and missed a 20 yard field goal at the beginning of the 3rd quarter which began Tennessee's collapse along with Graham's fumbles...With kickers we don't tend to remember the bad as long as they don't directly cost their team a game and come through in the clutch and for the most part Hall did that but he really was just average overall.

IF they knew he was injured...from what I understand Lincoln didn't tell anyone-so I put that on his shoulders.

I will say this though, the staff we had in 2009 left much to be desired also. UT dodged a bullet and is lucky Kiffin bolted after 1 year...no telling what kind of trouble, past, present, and future that punk and his staff would have gotten us in if they were still here.

CDD is a man of integrity and has a brain to go along with it....he has us headed back to where Tennessee football belongs

Lol @ the last paragraph. This is from the first page.

Daniel Lincoln wasn't the worst kicker we ever had. He was playing with an injured quadriceps. A student trainer-(I'd see him running up and downfield with the earphone cord for Kiffin's headset sometimes-not a graduate assistant) my son was in school with then said at times he could hardly lift his foot much less get lift under a football with it on a kick. He had to take medicine that day to even be out there. The GVX article below mentions that. He couldn't have even gotten the medicine if the trainers hadn't given it to him, and you know they told the coaches. Unless there were no other kickers on the roster who could make a 44 yd FG, that one is on Kiffin in my opinion.

A kick in the gut: Lincoln's kick blocked as time expires, 12-10 » GoVolsXtra

Funny how folks remember things only what they want to. Bammers are worst. (then volunteers):eek:lol:

The Bammer who got the block was on the line, barely off his feet.

Honestly the kicking game will likely be huge this year. People blame last seasons losses on the defense, mostly true, but if we had a great kicker then we only lose to bama....how much different would lasf season and the offseason be when we were a 1 loss team???how bout recruiting all those in state kids?

Not best or worst, but my all favorite was Ricky Townsend.

He grew up so poor, that he could only afford one shoe for football. Therefore, kicked barefooted. Ate dirt for breakfast.

Dude was my idol. Then as a stupid pre teen tried the barefoot kicking thing. Even 20 years from now if someone ever asks me if I've tried kicking barefoot I can answer"Yes. Once."

He was still awesome. Ricky and Larry Seivers.

Best 1. A .Fuad Reveiz 1. B Jeff Hall. Worst? tie between Greg Bruke, Michael Palardy, and Aaron Medley. If Burke had made all his chip shots we probably win NC. in 90 and between Palardy and Medley lets just say over las 20+ years last 2 kickers has stunk it up.

Townsend wasn't a bad KICKER, but he was the best kick-covering kicker I can recall in my 50 yrs of fandom. He would run downfield barefooted and blast a returner.
