The Before I Leave Final Prediction....

There is no way he doesnt know

Unless things have changed, he probably doesn't know. There aren't any computers for recruits to use while they are there. I can remember we snagged a newspaper from our drill instructors office one time to read the sports pages and got in deep sh*t for it. Anyone familiar with "making it rain?"

I got called to the quarterdeck to get a package and the Dodgers were in the world series. Looked at the tv too long and got mashed. Dumb company commander my package had bourbon balls in it! Thanks Mom!

During OS "A" school I got in trouble for alchohol. Long and winded story, but whatever....we've got time right?

I was in school from Nov-Jan and therefore went home for Christmas/New Years on leave. Just before we all left on leave we moved from the hall barracks to what were basically hotel rooms. There were 2 people to a room that had a bunk bed setup with a desk underneath on either side of the room. After we returned from leave one day, we were in class and called out for a health and comfort inspection. Since these inspections were meant to find any items you weren't supposed to have (like alcohol) they were always at a moments notice. This way you couldn't hide or remove anything.

Well, I didn't keep alcohol in the room so I didn't think twice about it. My room mate on the other hand had a couple of bottles and was sweating it while we were standing at attention outside of our door. While the inspectors were in another room he said, "do you have anything you want me to get?" I said "no, but you need to get your stuff and put them in your jacket so they don't find them." So he did. They inspected our room and come to find out I had a pint of JD in one of my bags. The pint was still in a brown bag, but was 99.999%empty. He turned it so that literally the corner of the bottle had just enough to where a taste was left.

So...I went to Captain's Mast the following week for having alcohol in my room. The part about this situation that sucked was my class was graduating the very next day after Captain's Mast. I was placed on 15 days of restriction and half a month's pay x2. So not only was I on restriction (meaning I could not go anywhere or do anything) but I wasn't in school anymore because I had graduated and therfore the days were even longer.

Well, wouldn't you know that the folks from my class (waiting for orders) were living on the same floor as where the last muster of the evening took place. It was a Friday night and we had nothing better to do so we figured we would stop by on our way out for a minute to pound a few beers. So we did...there was three of us and we each pounded maybe 4-6 beers in 2-3 minutes. On our way back to the restricted barracks, it just so happened that the Command Duty Officer for the entire base was walking on the same path we were. Well, he saw the big "R" on our badges (indicating we were on restriction) and asked where we were coming from and where were we going. We said we just had our last muster of the evening and were walking back to our barracks. He said, "well, I just passed a large group of restricted folks maybe 5 minutes ago well ahead of you. Why are you late?" So, we said we were talking the Petty Officer about something.

He didn't buy it and walked us back to his office. We were all standing at attention and he said, "I smell alcohol. I KNOW you guys haven't been drinking, especially on restriction." We said no sir of course. He then proceeded to smell our breath and told the other two guys, "you've definitely been drinking." While he was smelling the other guys breath I was swallowing my spit as much as I could to try and get the taste out of my mouth. When he smelled my breath he said, "well, you haven't been drinking, but you are still UA." (UA is unauthorized absence for those who don't know) So, I went back to Captain's Mast again the very next week for that. Needless to say the Officer In Charge (OIC) wasn't thrilled to see me again and said, "son, do you want to be in my Navy?" I looked at him square in the eyes and said, "sir, no disrespect intended but if it's as nit-picky as this than I'm not sure."

He then proceeded to say "Well, were you not late coming back from the meeting?" (I was) "So, you were UA?" (Yep) "Since you have already graduated, have orders, and are serving 15 days of restriction I'm not going to add to it. But, I'm giving you half month's pay x2 again and hopefully I won't see you in here again."

I didn't make it back for a third time...reported to my ship after my restricted time was up and actually excelled while being on the ship.
