You guys must have been staring out the window in elementary school the day they explained the difference between similes and metaphors.

No.

You compared the best NBA sixth man to one of the greatest pitchers of all time. Simile, metaphor, or analogy any way you spin it is no less garbage. No offense.

Jeter is an all-timer, too. I think the same team throughout factor makes a big difference. Obviously the yankee factor, too.

Chipper Jones was a considerably greater player than either Jeter or Rivera, and he also played for the same team his entire career. His retirement meant some extra coverage on Fox Sports South. Sportscenter's been wall to wall Rivera for a week, and he's still got a whole weekend left.

It's all the Yankee factor.

Relief pitchers are part time players, no matter how good they are. Would you be happier if I'd compared Rivera to a pass rush specialist who comes in on third down but is useless against the run?

And really? Trevor Hoffman was 95 percent as good as Rivera; he just didn't play FOR THE NEW YORK YANKEES. Is he on your short list too?

Derek Jeter has 5 rings. Mariano Rivera has 5 rings. We live in a nation run amuck with bandwagoning buffoons. If it were a different era of Yankee ball maybe those guys wouldn't be so celebrated. As it is, that is not the case. History loves winners, baby.

There are grown men my age who still get weepy over Donnie Baseball, and he never won anything. Most of this handwringing over Rivera (and eventually Jeter) is just because they're Yankees. If Rivera has the same career in Kansas City, all he gets is an extra half hour on a Fox regional network, just like Chipper did.

Umm, last time I checked they also happen to be pretty good ball players too.

Wait, wait, wait...you can buy Basil Hayden's at a fscking Rite Aid? What glorious state in our fair union allows for that?

BH is top notch stuff, one of my favorite choices in the somewhat expensive but still reasonable category. It's no Pappy, but then again it doesn't cost anywhere close to Pappy either.

Kentucky does get some things right. And I do like pappy, but to be honest, i honestly don't think it's worth the price.

I mean there are currently 9 other players who have more hits than Derek Jeter. And before it is all said and done that number will shrink dramatically.

Good, now I think I can trust you.

Agreed. It's still my favorite but it isn't that much better to deserve such a huge disparity in pricing.

Also, I feel as you wiffed on the intern comparison. The greatest intern OAT would be more par with the greatest LOOGY OAT.

Everyday player = 40 hour a week slob
Starting pitcher = Part time mom who leaves to pick her kids up after school every day
Closer = 7 hour a week intern
LOOGY = Data entry temp from Randstad

I get Chipper, I love the guy. I still use variations of aspects of his life as passwords for my accounts. I mean I named my first beagle "Chipper Jones" for Peter's sake. That said, Chipper is closer to being the greatest Ambassador of Hooter's opposed to baseball's greatest ambassador in the last 40 years.
