Ferg is the backup and has pulled ahead of Dobbs! Lane is starting! Que that song in the commercials "It's a Beautiful Morning..."

This Mariano Rivera stuff is so amazing, it really takes me back to Pedro Martinez's last game. And Greg Maddux's. And Randy Johnson's. Etc.

Wait, nobody did shat for any of those. As always, it's good to be a Yankee.

That is very true. The only hiccup being Mo is without a doubt the greatest to ever close a game.

"So what might be Jones' encore for this move? Well, it's going to be even better to be quite honest. Jones has spearheaded organization of a "Vol For Life" weekend, with tremendous support and help from Antone Davis, when the Vols host South Carolina on Oct. 19. Tennessee has extended some 150 invitations to VFLs and encouraged them to not only return for that weekend but to participate in game day activities. Don't be surprised to see the VFLs who return participate in the pre-game 'Vol Walk' in advance of kickoff against the Gamecocks. If some of the guys who are talking about coming back actually come back, it will be a gathering for former players like we haven't seen on campus in a long time."

Got to admit, this news has me very excited about my selection of the one game I can attend this year. At first I was a little disappointed about having to go to a wedding next weekend because I may have picked UGA instead but now I like the USC game just fine.

He's probably the coolest and most VFL poster we've had here since UTVOL02. Take that as you will.

He's the greatest 70 inning pitcher of all time. This is like treating a career sixth man like a retiring Michael Jordan.

Come on now, that is a horrible analogy. Furthermore, he could be the greatest ambassador to the game since Clemente. His relevance and importance transcends "70 innings" a year.

It goes beyond the field, really. Incredibly popular guy with everyone. I enjoyed the fanfare surrounding Mo this season.

Believe me, I am not crapping on Rivera. It's just weird that the most drawn-out, publicly weepy retirement of a pro athlete in a long time -- possibly my entire lifetime? -- is for a relief pitcher. Or at least it would be weird if he didn't play for the Yankees.

Gonna be at least as bad when Jeter retires too.

Jeter is an all-timer, too. I think the same team throughout factor makes a big difference. Obviously the yankee factor, too.
