The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness my old friend

True re: the record.

What I’m asking is what constitutes a good season for that line lol? I though they had a good solid season, not great. You said they weren’t good.

At some point maybe we should expect Forsberg to be what he is, a really talented hockey player. If he played with the consistency of who he is when at his best, he is a top 3 player in the world. That is what separates AO and SC from the mortals. I think Forsberg will have a 40 goal year or two, maybe three. But I don’t think he is good enough to consistently put out those numbers. And that’s OK lol. Still will go down as our best player OAT. But again, not the highest bar.
I don't think they were good relative to what they could have been, let me put it that way. They are really talented guys, so a year where they underachieve is better that a lot of other lines, but still disappointing. Of the 3 on that line, Arvy definitely is the overachiever. He did have a good goalscoring year, and Johansen did have a bunch of assists, more than he's ever had, actually. Like I said above, Forsberg, as good as he is, still seems like he has some kind of untapped potential. I think he's good enough to be a consistent point-per-game player and in some years score 40+ goals.

I think what constitutes a good season for that line goes beyond just what numbers they put up. I didn't see this season, for extended stretches, JOFA give other teams fits, and in the playoffs they were invisible. They weren't a consistent force that other teams had to reckon with. They seemed to play less than the sum of their parts, as did the entire team. That's why I said I didn't think they were all that good, relatively speaking.

I can understand that. I’m just looking through different a lens.

He wasn't with Columbus long and those were his 21 and 22 age seasons, brother. It SHOULD be a part of his game. He's got a wicked shot and he doesn't use it.

The Preds absolutely have to go all in on Duchene this offseason.
Agree, really need Duchene. Also, he does eat a lot of shots. I wish he would utilize his shot more.

Nobody on the Blackhawks or Kings was a superstar offensive player. You don't have to have a Crosby; you just need to have four lines who can score some and a goalie who can steal you a few games. Vegas was in the final last year despite not even really having a single _top-line_ quality forward, much less a superstar. Nashville's roster is and was ready to win right now, which is why that PP is such a grotesque problem.

Meanwhile the Braves more or less need to build a whole pitching staff. They've got some arms but barely any settled roles. You seem far more confident than I am at the feasibility of them pulling an entire bullpen out of their asses, and until they fix that there's effectively zero chance of them winning a title.

Maybe I'm just more pessimistic about them than the Preds because I'm a fan? The Braves are set up about as well as you can be for the next 7 sh years, but the apparent organizational assumption that if you just accumulate some young arms and shake them around a great pitching staff will eventually fall out seems pretty shortsighted.

I’m not anywhere near a hockey guy, but Kane and Kopitar aren’t stars? I will say a halfway decent PP and they probably get the 1 seed and at least get to the Semis again.

And I mean talent isn’t the issue. It seems more the coaching with the lack of strike throwing. Like I said a 2020 rotation of Folty/Fried/Gausman/Soroka/Wright is about as talented as you fine. And again you can find bullpen arms.

I’d rather have built through position players like the Cubs and Stros (though a core of Acuna/Ozzie/Dans/FF/Pache is good), but I think they’ll find enough pitching to potentially win a title. Or use the farm to find stud pitching.

Does Ender get traded this season. With Waters and Pache killing it in the minors, I'd like to think yes. Maybe we can get a decent arm or two for him
