So maybe the fix is to allow more pitchers on the staff, but only allow x of those to be eligible in a given game.Which seems to go against the pace of play issue. More offense = longer games.
538 did a pretty good write up that foul balls, not pitchers, are to blame for a lot of the issue. I can’t imagine a 3 batter minimum fixes that.
Yeah, I generally feel this way. They’re effing with rules to try to appeal to more people and all they’re going to do is alienate people they already have
It’s shorter than everything but basketball gamesYeah, I generally feel this way.
Baseball is almost designed to be leisurely. I don’t mind spending half the day passively watching baseball. But I understand that hurts attendance/TV ratings for a customer base moving towards faster information/faster everything.
Right - but it’s built in that the game can go on forever. I think the reason it *feels* longer is that exactly. It’s shorter than everything but basketball games
100% on platoon baseball and limiting number of relievers and putting in an out minimum will make it even more egregious

I agree, but I also do this with NBA. NBA games are the perfect background noise for me. Nothing matters until the last 4 minutes. Down 25? Up 25? Just wait. It’s crazy how people say it’s boring or too long or whatever. It’s the perfect sport to watch while doing other stuff in our multi tasking/electronic world. In high school I’d wait to do homework at 7:00 and have the Braves on in the background. I do a lot of my writing during baseball. With hockey and basketball, you have to put your focus on that or if you try and do anything else, you miss big parts of the game.

That’s true.
I think baseball can make some tweaks, but man it feels like Manfred and company overreact. Baseball still kills in local ratings. Still makes $3B more than the NBA. Still averages more per game than NBA/NHL. Still has the highest salaries. I get it, the National ratings on regular season games are not great, but you know what hurts them? They’re still terrible at marketing players.
Yeah that’s the biggest thing. The game is built to be anti-individual. They need to get rid of that thinking and build up these guys. That’s true.
