we beat uga, uscjr, ark, vandy, and ky. all who were better than us that year. we should have at least lost 2 of those then we could have fired fulmer. i remember every week was goona be the week if we lost and that sob kept pulling out wins. if we fired him at the end of 07 or let him know 08 was his last season we could have gotten a really good coach and kept all the recruits. i guess that's the breaks.

What are you talking about. Dooley had 3 weeks to recruit and has coached 4 games. HOW MUCH TIME DOES HE NEED????. Man I'm tired of all these fans saying give Dooley time. He has been here for 9 months already. He inherited a team of freshmen,walk-ons,transfers, and leftovers from Fulmers great 07/08 recruting classes. I heard Saban saw our roster and pissed his pants he was so scared. HE HAS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT BEATING 2 TOP 10 TEAMS IN 2 WEEKS WITH AN EXPERIENCED SEC QB LIKE MATT SIMMS. Time to move on and we should name Mike Hamilton interim coach, now thats a guy that never makes bad decisons.:)

:no:I forgot that 2007 is the year that UT got "lucky" and made it to the SEC championship game. UT got lucky and almost won the thing too. Shame on coach Fulmer for coaching UP his team.

Oh ok, they were all better, they just all happened to have bad weeks when they played UT....good thing we've played UK on their crappy day of the season for the last 25yrs

Volberry, I think you would relate to Oklahoma and Ohio St. fans that think Bob Stoops and Jim Tressel should have been fired already b/c they can't "win the big game."

UGA, UT won by 21.
SC, UT won by 3. SC was fortunate to come back, not the other way around.
ARK, UT won by 21.
Vandy, UT won by 1.
Kentucky, UT won by 2 in that crazy overtime game.

You're claiming that every single one of these teams was better than UT that year? I understand that Georgia finished great, but UT beat them by 21. Your post is foolishness.

GoF reasoning. And they wonder why they get excoriated.

You know, in the recent analysis, I think with Fulmer we are in the hunt, in the mix this season for the SECE. I don't think we can beat the West this year, but I think a proper TN team beats Florida last Saturday straight up. There is no way we would fear GA right now, and November - which is the real challenge for this team - would be a cakewalk.

Whose analysis???? YOURS??? the biggest fulmer homer in volnation history!!!

Here's some analysis on what we would do with Fulmer as coach this year:

Tennessee-Martin Knoxville - Win of course

Oregon- Loss, Phil would have no answer for Kelly's offense either and since 2000 Phil is 5-17 vs top 10 teams.

Florida- Loss, Phil never beat Meyer and always played FL too conserative, even in a down year for the gators No way Fulmer beats Florida this year

UAB Knoxville - WIN

@LSU Baton Rouge -Loss. Lsu Defense is too good and with the OL,DL Fulmer was recruiting at the end of his tenure we get blown off the ball all day long.

@Georgia- Loss. Fulmer was 3-5 against Rict and I know GA looks bad but they would beat us at home. Fulmer would fail to bring pressure on their Young QB, preferring to play zone to stop AJ green.

Alabama- LOSS, No explanation needed

@South Carolina- Loss, Spurrier owned fulmer and once again he would fail to adjust when spurrier started running Lattimore down his throat.

@ Memphis -W
Mississippi - W
@Vanderbilt-W
Kentucky-W

I think we win these last four no matter who the coach is.

So lets see that puts us at 6-6 for the season. It pretty much resembles what our program was doing at the end of his career. Pre-2000 Fulmer recruited well, hired good assistance, but still blew most of the big games. Post-2000 he recruited poorly preferring to ignore key need positions in order to land a bunch of 4 and 5 star recruits at the same positions, and let his assistance run the show. I know you have a man crush on Phil but let it go, he got Old,fat, lazy, and comfortable. No way are we competing for the East under Fulmer,Dooley, or Kiffin this year. That's why we fired him because we had to make a move to surpass Florida. Granted that move hasn't worked out but it's better than sitting on our hands and watching us finish 2nd or 3rd in the East every year until he retired and then starting a rebuilding process.

Below are stats I would love you to give me an explanation for:

FULMER
vs spurrier 5-9 (.357)
vs miles 1-2 (.333)
vs richt 3-5 (.375)
vs meyer 0-4 (.000)
vs saban 1-5 (.167)
vs tubberville 3-4 (.429)
13-29 vs upper tier sec coaches (.310)

32-39 vs top 25 (.451)
13-27 vs top 25 since 2000 (.325)

12-27 vs top 10 (.308)
5-17 vs top 10 since 2000 (.227)

I've seen you peddling this for a while. I don't see why we should fear UGA this year, at all. They are probably as inept on defense as we can be on offense. I don't think you can definitively claim anything about the UF game considering Fulmer's 0fer record against Meyer lead Gator teams. He was also doing pretty poorly against Saban's Bama teams. In fact, the only way we reached the SEC Championship game in 2007 was through the backdoor. I'm fairly certain his inability to beat Meyer or Saban's Bama squads, amongst his piss poor performance against top teams since about 2000, were the major reasons he was eventually let go. Turns out that November win streak isn't as awesome as some people would think.

Blame it on the good ole boy network that kept Fulmer in place too long. Phil would make a great politician, he knew who too suck up too real well.

I see your point. If Fulmer was a "real Vol" , he would have lost those games on purpose for the future of UT FB.

I think we should stick with Dooley, the last team Hamilton fielded lost to Wyoming according to Gibbs.

Yes but he hasn't lost in the SEC, which according to gibbs would put him as the 2nd best SEC coach in history behind Fulmer of course.

Let's get real. The program has been tanking since 04. We lucked up that Ainge was as good as he as. How do we have fr starting at Ut. Look at todays team. We got lucky against Uab. There roster is better than ours.

It wasn't the 07 season that screwed us. It was the comeback win in Baton Rouge in '05. If UT goes 4-7 that season, I think they would have canned Fulmer at that time. Imagine if we had gotten a quality coach at that point, when there were several available. Instead we went down a totally different road and are now so far off track I'm not entirely sure how we can get back on track.

Dooley has coached 4 games.....with players he didn't recruit.....do you think going for a 4th coach in as many seasons would help? No one wanted the job this past year, you think "a good coach" is going to want to come here? You're freaking high if you do. Give Dooley time, I think he'll end up being a good hire.
