Texas to spend $35-40m on 2025 roster

Season tickets can be sold out. Still doesn’t mean the ship isn’t headed for the proverbial iceberg. I think ruined is overstating it but we definitely have an issue and we need some guardrails put in place.
That's raw speculation and the facts don't support it.

Guardrails? The free market sets its own guardrails. That's why we have the situation we have now. Decades of the NCAA illegally interfering with the free market got us where we are now.

The guardrails need to be set up to control the NCAA, not the free market.

Report: Texas football spending unprecedented money on 2025 roster

Vol faithful, if this is not complete BS, how are we going to compete in this new era? We know OSU spent some $25m+ on their nat champ winning roster and now we see this. Then I see people talking about us spending somewhere between $10-12m this year.

I get discount shopping but seriously, how do we compete if this kind of money is being thrown around?

Yes, money alone does not a great program or record make BUT lets be honest, if the top 5 programs are all spending above $20m a year and most are in our own league, how can we recruit without making the economics of going to a game completely out of reach (or is it already?).
They are making that one last big swing before the cap hits... but it could bite them in the rear.. if the cap (antitrust) goes in place it might invalidate anything long term

I still maintain that some schools will simply abandon football. Thinking in particular of Kentucky. They are better off spending their NIL $ on basketball. They'll never be competitive in football. So shut that down and convert the land where the football stadium used to be into dorms or other facilities.
That would be extremely stupid.... even at Kentucky the football program (37 mil) brings in more revenue than basketball (22) its just simple math. You don't have to win or even be competitive in football to bring in big dollars. Also just being in the SEC you get a big check from bowl season. They would have to leave the SEC if they dropped football your premise makes zero sense for a P5 school. Forsome smaller schools in conferences that don't have major TV deals maybe. But even then, D1 football is too profitable to not have it.

Based on what? Your wishful thinking?

There is actually a very strong correlation.
Sports fans buy tickets and merch, and fill seats.

They don't do that for dead sports.
Back to my original comment - forever ruined.
Over time, the institutions with the most money will consistently win. Players will have little allegiance/pride in the programs they attend. Traditions will fade. Smaller programs will not be able to compete. Locker room issues will increase. In my view - forever ruined.

thats always been the case.

when was the last time a smaller/poorer school won? Nebraska in the 90s, with GT and Colorado. otherwise its been nothing but big time schools for more than 2 decades. and it was pretty much the same before Osborne introduced PEDs to college football.

Your original comment has zero basis in fact.

Switching teams does ruin a sport.
Making money doesn't ruin a sport.
Smaller programs rarely if ever are competitive. There have been licker room issues off and on in every sport and that won't change.

You are grasping at straws trying to support a false narrative. The facts say that you're wrong.

Whatever…

What is a “licker” room? Thankfully, I’ve been able to avoid such a place.

I prefer college sports before NIL and players transferring at will. You must prefer the latter. What is ruined for me is apparently not ruined for you. The “facts,”as you state, say that I am wrong. I disagree. No straw grasping here.

BTW - “locker” room issues are far worse now. I have several friends who are college cioaches. I trust what they tell me.

I said compete - not win.

You prefer an anachronism that is fine and never coming back.
