NO on Sumlin.....No on Fisher....Franklin ain't leaving PSU...Frost is going home to Nebraska....

Mullen would be a BUST....you folks are just kidding yourselves about his success at MSU....he had 2 decent years 4 years ago....but NADA since...

Morris is a good coach....Matt Campbell is a good, young coach....

But UT's program has sunk so low that I believe that we NEED a man who has "...been there and done that!"

Gruden would be my first choice....

John Harbaugh....

Paul Chryst at Wisconsin....

You drunk?

Gruden IS NOT coming! Get over it.
Harbaugh is at his alma mater.
Franklin is back in his home state.
Chryst is a thinner Belema.

The best we will do is a young up and comer

I don't believe Franklin leaves...BUT...I'm living among the fans. They are as insane as Vols fans are. MANY want him gone due to the past 2 games. Forget that he hasn't had time to sustain quality depth. Forget that they had been terrible prior to his arrival. "He can recruit, but can't coach." He's hi5ing when they are up but biting his nails when games get close." They expect a Natty just because they played great in the Rose Bowl against a Trojan team with no defense.

I disagree with the cant coach comment. You do not win 9 games at Vandy in back to back years without being able to coach

Can't wait for a thread attempting to discuss who might realistically take the UT job at some future point. None of these people would be caught dead here. UT fan base burned its bridges with African American coaches during the Cuonzo situation.

How can you people talk about a man being a good coach and not even consider
Houston from James Madison. Yes it is not the SEC, but he can flat out coach.

People think he would do better at Tennessee because it's a better job that would attract better recruits while facing an easier schedule.

Those who have that opinion may be right or wrong, but the logic makes sense.

You do have to grade these guys on a curve.

So, many guys will say...."I don't want that guy.....the best he did was 10-2". Like you're supposed to go 13-0 and make the playoff at Akron or someplace like that.

Dan Mullen took Mississippi State to the Orange Bowl.

He can coach.

Somebody already stated that even though Miss St is in the west, UT's strength of schedule has been a little higher than State. Expect about the same results.

Chryst is a good coach and would be a great hire. He is a smash mouth run it down your throat kind of guy!

I think JOHN Harbaugh coaches the Ravens.

NCAA probation in 3, 2, 1. . . .

UF SEC East Champs x 1, 2, 3....

I've mentioned this in a different thread about Lane being UF's next choice. Don't think he's not on the short list.

I wouldn't want Sumlin at all.

Dan Mullen has done ALOT at State for what he has to work with. Just imagine if he had the facilities and $$$ at Tennessee

Agreed with both of your points. I don’t get the “Mullen isn’t that great a coach” talk. Nobody’s ever been able to do what he’s done at Miss St.

As far as switching coach lists, I’d personally like to see Gruden coach here. I realize that statement alone will unleash firestorm of responses. I also, personally, think Franklin would be a phenomenal hire. After what he’s done at Vanderbilt (similar to what Mullen has done at State from a talent discrepancy/difficulty of recruiting/level of competition standpoint) and how he has the State Penn rolling, I don’t see how anyone can doubt his coaching acumen.

Frost and Morris would both be good hires, and I’d be happy with them, I just think either is less of a “sure thing” than the others.

I still don't understand why no one ever mentions Mike Leach's name on these type of threads. If I put a list together, my top 3 would be Gruden, Leach, or Mullen.
I think Gruden is a risk, but I think his name appeal and flashiness are high enough that the risk is worth it. But I also get that Gruden is a hopeful pipe dream. However, UT football hasn't really given me anything else to be hopeful about, so I'll just go ahead and keep hoping.
Mullen is great a coach, and like several on here have said, what he has done at MS State is just a phenomenal accomplishment and could be replicated times 10 here! I think he's our best bet in terms of being an actual grab. However, he also wouldn't be the "flashiest" hire for this fanbase at the moment, which worries me.
That leaves Mike Leach. Look at what all he has done at every place he's been at! I mean he put Texas Tech on the map and has Washington State in the Top 25! I get that he's a crazy, pirate loving, Trump supporting, offensive push-up making, nutcase of a coach, but just imagine how incredible it would be to have him here! The crap he would say alone is reason for him coming. Add all that to the success I feel he would strongly be able to acquire here, I just don't get why people aren't calling for his name.
Again though, I get we're just fans on a forum, and most of us aren't in the know, so maybe his name is being mentioned. But I just wanted to show the pirate some love!
Also, side note, just found out we're having a little girl today, so future VFL coming in March!

Don’t really understand Mullen. We’ve had 3 coaches that couldn’t beat Alabama. Now we want to add a 4th?

...

And that is based on what? Your football IQ is literally zero if you think Mullen is a bust and Paul Chryst would be a fit here by leaving his Alma Mater.....

Sigh, our fan base has gotten so stupid.

It's a lot harder to beat Bama when you're at Mississippi State than when you're at UT with better facilities, support systems, and fans.

So your answer is Les, Urban, Dabo, or Wittingham, Sumlin, Freeze, or Gus?

Buddy, you've missed about 25,000 Mike Leach threads if thats the case.

Leach isnt a warm and fuzzy guy.

Plus he's just plain weird. Have you ever listened to his pressers?

Not exactly the hobnob kind of guy either. No BO Caravans, rubbing elbows kinda guy.
Don't think the uppity ups would like that.

Over Mullen? Absolutely!

We hired a coach that couldn’t beat Dooley, which was the only concern of mine when we hired him. Mullen would be good at Tennessee but don’t expect championships with him here.

If that’s your only criteria for a coach, you are a sad little person. Mullen would be a home run hire here. JG would actually have a chance at the NFL under him.

What’s funny is that if people were offered Mullen’s rèsumè without the Miss State Years, they would gladly take him here as an OC with two rings and two superb QB’s developed.

Dude would win here easily.

Uh, sure, because Miss. state and UT are so similar in history, facilities and recruiting.

Seeing how I just joined, I guess I have missed them haha. I'm new to the forums side of being a fan. But that's my point anyways, we don't need a "hugger" we need a winner. But alas, you nailed it with the higher ups. Guess I'm still in the hopeful, delusional phase.

Far from my only criteria. But if you’re evaluating the entire body of work, Mullen would definitely be in my top 10 of potential coaches.
