Tennessee wins: College Football is on notice

ESPN wanted Indiana to win they didn't even show Jeremy Pruitt being awarded the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl Trophy:mad:

Good God, why are people complaining about this? Almost every trophy presentation has been moved to ESPN3. Only the New Year's 6 bowls have they showed the trophy presentations that I know of.

With the bowl win, the SEC and all of college football is on notice. The Vols are back.
O.K. If you say so. I did not see a team any SEC program would not like to have on their schedule next year. Very disappointed that Pruitt did not have this team ready to perform at a high level. No longer on Pruitt bandwagon. I'm back in wait and see mode.

I'm happy, but come on opšŸ˜„
Not a lot to be happy about. Better than a loss but I would rather have played really well and lost to a good team than to play like total crap and come away with a win.

If you want brutal honesty, that was horrible on every level.
There are some on this site that can't take brutal honesty. The offense literally was hit or miss until the final six minutes. I'm not sure where the defense went between halftime and the final six minutes. The Vols came to just in time and were fortunate to win. I'll take it anytime, but to say Tennessee is ready to challenge for the SEC East (as some have) might be a bit premature at this point.

If Harrison Bailey is the real deal and plays well as a freshman then we might worry some folks but not with JG.
I've defended JG a lot, but it's time to kick him to the curb. Pruitt should inform him and the whole team that he will not be the starter next season. That way, we keep Mauer and maybe Shrout. Otherwise, both probably transfer and we're in dire straits if Bailey is not as good as many hope or he gets injured. Few freshmen come in a perform at a high enough level to win in the SEC. Mauer has shown me nothing, but with some experience and hard coaching, he could be better than JG and couldn't be much worse.

I agree, but still happy we pulled it off. Go back to the start of this season, and we lose that game. These guys, despite dumb penalties and bad qb play, never quit.

:D

Still plenty of work to do. They are a long way off but at least it is headed in the right direction. Maybe next season we can win the games we are supposed to win and get some wins in a couple of games we arent supposed to. Regardless ... a Gator bowl win against a Indiana team that isnt much better than Kentucky isnt a "we are back" type of statement.

Call me when we beat Florida and Georgia or Alabama while not losing games we are heavily favored in and never should lose. Trending in the right direction? Yes. Back? No, not close yet. It was a one point win over Indiana. I repeat, Indiana...

Back? to what status? not even close to being in the National Title Hunt.. We are losing several good players , yes we are hopefully trending in the right direction. hopefully this team has figured out how to Win, but to say We are "back" hmm i don't think so. We do need to get back on the field and Practice , Watch the game film and Learn a thing or two , like Not aligning off sides, Not Jumping off sides , Not moving the ball on a 4TH and inches , Tennessee scraped by with a win , A game that should NOT have been close. QB play wasn't any good , Defense was decent , OL played ok at times, I myself was not impressed overall....I did see some Bright Spots though but just concerned , anytime a team brings in new players , there is that anticipation of How Good are They? I hope HB is all He is projected to be and I hope we have some more athletes to fill the shoes of the spots we are loosing. Trey Smith will be a Huge factor IMO...Go Vols !!!

That's not the spirit! You act as if the SEC Championship is a big deal, and we should be keeping our eye on winning it. No, we need to concentrate on going to a bowl game, any bowl game, as long as we go to a bowl game, then we know we're doing well.

Well, maybe "back" from being a perennial SEC cellar dweller. That's about it. The vols are miles away from being competitive with the power teams of the SEC. Closer than they were a year ago? Yes, but still a long way to go. Looking at the 2020 schedule, it looks like a 8-4 regular season finish, and that is mostly because of a schedule that includes five almost sure wins (Charlotte, Furman (!), Arkansas, Troy and Vandy). It would take some pretty massive strides to get to 9-3. Would take beating one of OK, Florida, Alabama, or Georgia to do so.

If last night's play is an indicator, we won't be nearly improved enough to take on any of those last 4 teams and expect to win. JMHO.

"""Five almost sure wins", just goes to show we have a great scheduler. We only need six to get to a bowl game. In so far as our ranking in the SEC, it doesn't seem to matter as much as it once did, but going to a Bowl Game does. As long as we are able to keep those responsible for our schedule, we should be a Bowl Game Going Machine!!! It would be bowl game suicide to start scheduling a bunch of the top 25 teams, Furman was a stroke of genius! Not to mention, coache's W-L records (and often their Huge Contracts) depend on winning seasons, yes we need to keep these guys....

10-2 if we beat Oklahoma and that's a big if we represent the east in the SEC championship with a upset win over Georgia
