Tennessee vs Florida game thread

Simms ended with a decent statistical game, though.

19/30 270 yards 2 TD 2 INT

He might be able to have a Cromptonesque turnaround.

Not great, I know, but lets realize he started 0 TD/ 2 INT and finished better. If he calms down as our O-Line gels... he could have a Cromptonesque turn-around.

We should be competitive with every other team we play minus Alabama.

Todays game was great. Our players show tons of potential. We need a little more on the offensive line to help out the QB a little more but Poole is very aggressive probably one of the most aggressive in the SEC and Gerald needs to come back and I think we can hang with LSU!!Lets go Orange

All in all, I'm not totally pissed! They didn't give up and that's what I was waiting for. We need a quarterback that can extend drives and keep our defense off the field.. Some boneheaded plays from the qb position killed us, line at times didn't seem like they had a clue, but what can you expect from a young o-line... Defense played their butts off. At the end if the day we are 1-2, but I'm still proud to be a VOL!!!!!!

At the Swamp against a far better Gators squad with the spread at something like 25 and only losing by 10 is something of a moral victory (though I abhor even taking about "moral victories").

Compare that to this year at Neyland against a very underwhelming Gators squad with their QB making his first road start and a spread of 11 and losing by 14?

You guys should be ashamed for even trying to call this a moral victory.

Are you nuts? Last year we played to not lose by a large margin. This year we played to win but got beat but not terribly bad. I don't believe in moral victories, but this year's game showed more promise for our future than last year's game.

I am.

I will have to admit that I am less disgusted than I thought I would be. That's some sort of victory, I guess.

I was disappointed with the lack of QB pressure on third downs, but these guys didn't quit. For a young team that is a small step in the right direction.

Things we can all agree on
1. Simms is not good
2. We lack depth
3. Our special teams kicking and coverage sucks
4. We MUST work on 3rd down defense
5. Over the next several weeks we will slowly get better

I agree Lex. We also need to roll Simms out more often as he showed a lot of promise when rolling.

We lost by 14. At home. To a very underwhelming team.

If this year's team played at the swamp last year against last year's squad they'd have lost by 30+.

I had to keep reminding myself that this team (the oline) was getting their first taste of a SEC defense. Yes, today (and last week) sucked, but my UT fandom refuses to allow me to shat out on the year. I think we'll get better and I will hope that this trial by fire for our team doesn't burn us too badlly.

All that being said, I would love to see Simms and Crompanator in the octagon.

That's called stage two of acceptance/resignation....good news too, you will be drinking less as the season rolls on.

I do not think we can put it all on Simms. Our O line looked pretty horrible too.

It is, but it is a small one. I have a hard time getting too excited for a team that, if playing well, can hold the game close for a half.

I also hate to think what this game looks like if Florida isn't completely boneheaded early on. A muffed punt, a fumbled snap, a donk off of receiver's head, and two failed shots to make two feet aren't going to happen against every opponent we face.

Simms needs a little more help on his blind side and overall line. He made some good plays but he has alot riding on him. I got an ounce of faith in him. A little more then Crompton but he will do fine...His is good or he wouldnt be in the SEC

Well, here's to living in the past then! Now, we have next year and this one is in the books to. Would of, should of, could of and all the what ifs!
