Tennessee Vs. Appy State Line

I'm very concerned about their returning QB Lamb. He is a very athletic QB & a decent passer. We're supposed to have one of the top defenses not only in the SEC but the entire country. Well, we're going to get tested by an experienced QB right off the bat.

I think this might turn into a little bit of a slugfest. Not saying App State is going to score 40+ points but they are going to put up a few points. They can't stop us however. I'd
say 23.5 point line is about right. I'll say we win 45-19.

45-19 is hardly a slugfest

Not for nothing, but does anyone remember what the Michigan vs. Appy State line was back in aught 7?

Well then.
Perhaps Butch will use that as a motivational tool.

He better & also better show the team the film/video from that game too. Not the same coaching now at Michigan or Appy State but just to see it happen to let the Vols know this can happen.

Make it stop.

As someone who spent 6 years in Boone, NC (save the jokes, yes that's a long time to go to undergrad) let me set the record straight...

It is not "Appy" St.

No one calls it that. It is either Appalachian St or App St. It is NEVER "Appy" St.

Now. Carry on, correctly.

Nor the same level of overall offensive talent for App State, IMO. They do have a good QB now, but back then they had a nice little trio. Their QB, RB, and one particular WR was really, really good if memory serves me correct. QB Edwards, and WR Jackson was drafted in the 3rd and 2nd rounds. It takes some serious talent to win three straight NC's in a row at any level.

I've seen many on here call it Appy State including me. Why such a big deal? :eek:hmy:

No one who went there, lived there, lives there, or is in any way associated with the school calls it that.

That's my point.

You're not alone, many refer to it incorrectly. Just a pet peeve of mine...

Turns out the line was Michigan by 33.
(By the way, my family and friends, many from the Boone and western North Carolina area, have referred to it as Appy State as far back as I can remember - as far back as the Sixties if not earlier. I also remember the East Tennessee news media regularly using that designation as well. So, I'll stick with that appellation for Appalachian State. It always seemed rather endearing to me. Besides that, my British friends think it's Happy State.)

It's always been Appy State to me, and I grew up close enough that it was covered in our local sports section.

As a Nashville native I would like to clear up that the school here is called Vanderbilt or Vandy, no one here calls it "Candy". Also friends from Gainesville have pointed out they are called Florida or the Gators, not Flor-duh or the Gay-tors. Also Peyton didn't win the Heisman, not the HeisTman, the coach of Alabama is Nick Saban, not Nick Satan. The good basketball/bad football school is Kentucky, not Ken-sucky. Just wanted to clear some of these things up

In before ... "I can see this game being pretty competitive into the 3rd Q before we pull away with our depth and talent."

We go vanilla on offense and defense, play conservative against a top flight sun belt team - and still whip them up and down the field from the opening kick off.

Come on guys. We didn't lose games like this even in the Dooley years.

We are going to shred these guys. Not even worried about it.
