Appy State is the Chaminade of college football. EVERY decent team they play gets whipped to death with "hey, they beat Michigan". Every decent team kicks the crap out of them in retribution for having to listen to it all week on ESPN...we're way better than "decent". A fluke.

Yeah, they happen. Happens to practically every team out there at some point or another. Bama lost to LA Monroe, UT lost to Wyoming, Michigan lost to Appy State, UF lost to Georgia Southern, VA Tech lost to James Madison...the list could go on.

The point being is every P5 team at some point or another will drop a "gimme" game. Yet the opponents almost never are the same. What was the last P5 opponent Appy State knocked off in the past (almost) ten years since that Michigan game? And what happened when they got the rematch against Michigan? They got smoked.

For crying out loud, each and every year, some of the fans positively freak out over one game in which they think we are just positively going to get beat by a far inferior foe. Arkansas State, Utah State, Western Kentucky, Akron, etc.

Don't forget ab Dobbs running it a few times...I'm guessing they'll try to run Dobbs as little as possible to avoid injury, but he'll still get 5 carries at least off read options and scrambles.

That's not what I said though. I said it's a team we just can't overlook. They are a dangerous team with a very capable QB in Lamb to beat us both running & passing. I didn't say it was going to happen. I just mentioned it. Don't include what I said as "one of those every year type of guys". That's not how I put it. Thanks!

It's not directly at you in particular, but rather your post was a segue into a rant of mine that each and every year, Chicken Littles freak out over things that happened a decade or more ago. Just last year when UAB dropped from our season opener, I suggested the Air Force Academy might be a good substitute since it had an open date that first week. And a couple of posters straight went ape crap. And because?

"They almost beat us the last time!"

Almost ten years, three coaching changes and hundreds of players ago they came close. But don't let that stop some people from freaking out over an opponent that had a one time, generational fluke win over a massively superior opponent.

It's nothing personal and wasn't really directed at you. Just something that bothers me about our fan base.

Gotcha, but I'm not part of that typical fanbase. I'm a VFL & no matter how bad things gets you won't catch this guy turning his head the other way.

The difference is Appy State is a 11 win division one team from last year. I don't think we'll lose by any means, but they are far from your typical cake walk.

They lost to Arkansas State by double digits, and to Clemson by 30.

There are 11-win division 1 schools, and then there are 11-win division 1 schools. This is the second kind.

It's a fairly typical cakewalk. The Vols have nothing to worry about in Week 1, as long as we're awake.

Appy State's only tough opponent last year was Clemson. They lost 41-10. Lamb's QB rating - 6.2.

Rushing: 3 ATT/8 YDS/2.7 AVG/8 LNG/0 TD

I think this might turn into a little bit of a slugfest. Not saying App State is going to score 40+ points but they are going to put up a few points. They can't stop us however. I'd say 23.5 point line is about right. I'll say we win 45-19.

Their QB doesn't matter if he can't get the ball. The all-conference center graduated. Last year he got hurt in the first quarter against Arkansas State and the back-up had trouble getting the snap off for the rest of the game. That was their only loss outside of Clemson.
