Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

I'd be surprised if we pursued, the guy absolutely chucks up shots, while I can't speak for him on an individual basis, but Detroit has never had higher than a defensive efficiency than 299th in the country while he was there.

The impressive: Played in 111 games - lowest point total in any game was 10 points (twice) - only has seven games of less than 15 points.

Rob Lewis said in the Volquest podcast today that he doesn’t really expect to go after anyone else in the portal. More likely the international route from here on out. Said Key,Phillips and Pack are the 3 main targets.
Fwiw Rob also said we were in good shape with Brandon Murray when everyone knew he was headed to Georgetown, he’s pretty out of touch.

The million dollar question with Davis is can he be more efficient by being on a better team…he obviously was hit teams guy and the focal point of defenses, level of difficulty of shots high and always drawing teams best defender, how much more efficient could he be on a balanced team? I don’t know that answer, just saying that’s what coaches will be asking.

Davis played for his dad, Mike Davis, so he shot the ball like crazy. I would be stunned if he ends up somewhere high level. He’s gonna want to keep shooting the ball at the same rate.

I think he would stay there if that was the case, my guess is he wants to go to a contender/NCAAT team and understands that will likely mean shooting a bit less.

Has there been any movement on where BHH is gonna go? I’ve heard Auburn pushing hard there and the initial Georgetown reports, but seen no real predictions or movement.

Can’t wait to see all the salty Saint Louis fans crying. Didn’t realize how delusional they are. They seriously believe Saint Louis isn’t a mid major and Tennessee would be a step down
I’m glad it may be finally coming to fruition. He will fill in nicely for Chandler. Not as much scoring but he can drive and dish, and pass with the best of them!

Does Tennessee Hold The Key?

Will Tennessee get the final crack at Indiana State transfer Tyreke Key? He's a native of Celina, Tennessee and a product of Clay County High School. Tennessee is all in on Key now that Murray is on his way to Georgetown. This guy can score ... He broke Tony Delk's state tournament scoring record before having a really solid career in the Missouri Valley Conference. Key is visiting Texas Tech this weekend.

Key is a year out from shoulder surgery. At one point he was a 45% 3 point shooter then regressed to a 31% shooter. I was told that his shoulder issues factored in his numbers falling off. Can he regain his form? If he does, wherever he goes is going to land an impact player. His injuries really put a damper on what his next school can expect. He's good enough for Tennessee to be intrigued and for Rick Barnes to have visited him in person a few weeks back in the Mid-State. Key is also considering Oklahoma ... Tennessee is hoping he'll choose them after next week's visit.

Malik Reneau:

South Florida product. Signed with Mike White ... Former 5 star player ... Tennessee is going to try to get him on campus for a visit but word is they're expecting him to eventually choose Miami. Truth is you never know. If Tennessee gets him up here in the next week or so and falls in love with the place and hears what he wants to hear ... who knows?

Miami is certainly the biggest competition for him. He's a 6-8 big man that's regarded as a lot more college ready than some recent big man Tennessee signees. He was very good at Montverde which is a powerhouse private school that's pumping players into the game. They have a couple of lottery picks every year on their team. The expectation on Reneau is that he could develop into a first round pick one day. Tennessee's up against it with him since Miami is coming off an Elite 8 run and returns some pretty good players from that core. If Tennessee doesn't get Reneau they have a few back up transfer options.

Julian Phillips:

It's stone cold silent around him. This is a guy in the fall that told everybody what they wanted to hear but in the spring he's playing with a poker face. At the end of the day the highest bid seems like they're going to win here. That is unless Phillips decides on the G League which does come with the benefit of accruing service time toward an NBA pension.

Here is an interesting nugget to consider ... Collins must enter the portal by May 1st if he wants to be eligible to play next year. So expect something to pop with him. The combine is in the middle of May. So he could enter the portal, shoot his shot at the combine then end up in Knoxville.

Collins & Key will be a nice start, but the other two little bits of info don't sound too promising. I wish we were pursuing other big men....imagine we miss on those guys and we have a handful of players left that played 3 mins the previous season for some D3 schools. Mostly BVS.
