Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

I agree. I would have thought he’d be a little more raw than Springer, too, though. If he is truly putting it together this early, he will be a special player.

My thoughts as well. I would have guessed Springer would have been the more college ready prospect, but thought Keon would eventually grow into the better player.

I’ll be the first one to say it but I think pons has enough of an elite skill that he might get drafted this season as a specialist type player with projection to be more

Well i was the first one to say Grant was going to be an early draft and now when BTO and VQ said no way no how I Led the way again.

He was an undersized power forward without an outside shot but with great intangibles. Most everyone was wondering if the NBA would appreciate his skill set since he didn’t fit the normal mold of a power forward

I don’t know about that. I don’t recall anyone predicting GW going as high as he went until very late in the process when info started slipping out from the NBA types

Agree I didn’t say he was going to go that high but I did post early during his sophomore year he wasn’t going to finish his eligibility here. That was laughed at by many here

Williams did a superb job of working on his weaknesses and he and Admiral will be the modern day version of Grunfeld and King back in the 70's while you could say that Alexander is like Mike Jackson in that he was a very integral part of that team that did not get a lot of recognition.

Bone would be Jackson, except better, imo

...Bone is Darden, Alexander as a Senior is Reggie Johnson as a Freshman, Williams and Admiral in their last year are Ernie and Bernie in their first year together. Bowden is Jackson.

Ernie and Bernie at least slightly underachieved, based on their talent, especially in the tourney. Williams and Co. overachieved, at least in their last year together.

Those '70's teams did not have a sixth man (Lamonte Turner). That very well could have been their reason for lack of tourney success. Depth was practically non-existent.

That's interesting. I would love to have a comparison of how those two compared statistically their last two years. They were both generally surrounded by very good players, and as such, weren't looked at as first option to score guys.

I was about to respond pretty much the same way. I don't recall Darden scoring much at all. He didn't need to. He was an excellent floor general, which was what was needed. However, if there was one player on the recent team that was more talented than their elder counterpart, I might have picked bone over Darden. Bone is 6'3". Darden was 5'11", if I remember correctly (he could still dunk with ease). To my memory, I would say that they had similar abilities, but I would love to see what others think.
