Tennessee under NCAA investigation over use of recruiting hostesses

People yelling and holding signs at a football game. What is the world coming to?

If only they'd implemented the celebration penalty earlier, such outrageous fan behavior might have been contained.

you're an absolute idiot. If a Georgia fan showed up at a UT/Alabama game holding a UGA sign and rooting for Bulldogs, would you call that normal behavior as well? If you're going to argue something, use a little bit of logic.

When Kiffin accused Meyer of "cheating" because he texted a recruit while on a trip to Knoxville.... Kiffin was chastised by Slive and it was reported that Meyer was not breaking any rules.

How quickly the critics forget...

Uh oh. I sense a rule violation for our little troll friend here.

by real bad i meant it's more than a 2ndary violation... if the NCAA finds this kinda thing was standard procedure... it's gonna mean serious sanctions.... that's really bad IMO.

That's completely different. Plus, you missed the sarcasm.

Irony.

I just have a feeling that this is going to blow up in someone's face who isn't connected to UT at all.... The local radio here in Atlanta is having a collective orgasm over this.... I don't see the NCAA getting enough dirt on Tennessee to level any real penalty and whoever is promulgating this "investigation" is going to have some "Splaining" to do.... Funny how all this seems to be emanating from South Carolina.....

That story is absolutely ludicrous.

I heard that call also. The guy said Kiffin used his credit card for the hotel. It was one of the biggest BS stories I have ever heard in my life. If that was true Kiffin would have to be the biggest idiot in coaching history.

Probably that caller's fifteen minutes of fame.
If Lane Kiffin paid for that hotel room, he deserves to get in trouble. However, the fact that the NYT carried the story makes me think that they know more is coming down the pike. Every news organization wants to break a story, and they might have put that little piece out in anticipation of something bigger. It's not over yet...

Idiot? That's a violation of board rules. Your behavior warrants a wide-ranging investigation.

Not hardly. When hot girls and athletes get together, nature is in charge. There is nothing the NCAA, SEC, or UT can do about that.

I don't generally have a problem with the way Kiffin's handled himself since he got to Knoxville, but this is what you get when you make enemies. If you own a restaurant and you insult someone on the city council, a team of health inspectors shows up. I hope Kiffin's clean.

That is an interesting take, I wondered when we landed so many big prospects last year about the staff's tactics.

I hoped that it was all kosher, I'm still hoping, and that's what has me worried.

It's a violation for you to be on a Tennessee site. That could persuade a potential recruit to go to Florida. I will have to notify the NCAA. :p

NCAA Investigators visiting potential recruits for Tennesse or any other University is an attempt to alter their choices. The NCAA should be sued by the University for tampering in recruiting and trying to devert potential athletes from signing with Tennessee. The 300 pound Gorilla has over stepped its bounds this time.
This is simple retaliation toward Lane Kiffin and the University. It is TIME to EXPOSE the NCAA for what it really is.
The NCAA talks a good game about keeping recruiting fair but turn around and do this is totally WRONG>

If it were another program, would you say this kind of activity should be ignored? If the NCAA is told about something like this, it's their responsibility to investigate, just like they would any other school.

Unfortunately, that is subjective in the AA's eyes. If they wanted to nail a donor for leaving a facebook message, they could. If these girls are 'representatives of the university,' then their contact is restricted.

100% correct. It's all up to the NCAA. I'm sure the colleges know and inform the hostesses of where the line is and how far they can go.

This "secondary" infraction could just be the NCAA using something small and irrelevant to try and open a bigger investigation into other areas.

Wrong. Nothing paid/reimbursed/relayed/spoken on behalf of. Witch Doctor say watch story come and go...(Gators involvement on other hand......its war)

Give me a break. I think people here probably wouldn't like it, but no one is dumb enough to suggest that waving some sort of stupid sign is a major recruiting violation. But maybe you are that dumb.

well here's one up side... if all it takes is some pretty hostesses... then all kiffin needs to do is bring his wife to all recruiting visits. i'd say UT has a big advantage there.

It doesn't matter if this turns out bad or not UT needs to stop getting in the news for all these stupid little things.

Agreed. That is what made me think this story had to be completely bogus. No way he is that stupid to pay for it with his credit card.

as long as it's not funded by the univ I can't see why anyone would have an issue with it.
