Tennessee Softball 2025

It will be interesting to see how it impacts the Big Ten…and how those dominoes affect UCLA. UCLA does not fit in that conference under any metric I can think of. Oh, except the desire for $.
If I was a player and looked at the B1G Conference, the first thing I would see is the travel time is insane. I hate the long travel times I just see that conference with so many west coast teams as a turn off to any student that really looks the whole scenario over. You have long travel and teams that are in the frozen tundra in early spring just don't see any attraction.

Aka Gerry Glasco is a slimy POS
The first time I had ever seen this coach was in the 2025 world series. The first thing I noticed about him is that he likes to put his hands on his female players a lot -a very "affectionate" coach. Hopefully nothing sinister going on, but the optics are not good. In this day and age, one would think it best a coach reduce all that touchy stuff. If I were a young female athlete, it would be extremely uncomfortable (perhaps even creepy) to have an old male coach running his hands all over me. When I first saw that so many of his players entered the portal, I wondered if this might have been a contributing factor. Cute little Taylor Pannell should decide how to react when he starts affectionately laying his hands all over her for the world to see.

Let’s be honest, her dad sold her to the highest bidder.
How is what she did any different than players we take out of the portal? Have we taken a player who’s making less money here? She got her degree, she’s got a chance to get a graduate degree elsewhere making life changing money as you stated Tennessee wouldn’t be able to match. Taylor didn’t need her dad to get her money…Brandon might of fielded calls but her play earned the money.

I also was taken aback when Texas player Mia Scott was chasing a foul ball, and he chose to stand there (rather than move). He not only had his hands all over her, but I noticed as he was going down, his left hand was conveniently located on her right breast. Again, hopefully nothing sinister here. Give 'ole Gerry the benefit-of-the-doubt. You can see the entire play here:

He was an assistant at Georgia for several years then he was an assistant at Texas A&M. His first head coaching job was at Louisiana, and then this year was his first year at Texas A&M.

His daughter Geri Ann, who years later tragically passed away in a car accident, transferred from Georgia to Oregon while he was on staff in Athens. Of course, when she passed away, she was on his coaching staff at Louisiana. I don’t know if there was a rift between them at the time or she just didn’t like being coached by him, but at the time it was odd that she transferred given he was at Georgia and had spent so much of her childhood in that area. Of course it could be an Ally Shipman situation where she just wanted a different environment away from her parents.

Tennessee hasn’t made contact and signed a player to an agreement three months before the season ends, so it’s pretty different than what we’ve done.

Most people aren’t mad that she transferred for more money. If they had been approached at the contacted after the season was over, it’s just business. People here and in the industry are mad that a representative of Texas Tech started this process in March. With her and at least two other players. When rumors of it first circulated in March, both the player and her father denied it. When the rumors resurfaced in May, they denied it to coaches and teammates again. Then she went into a month-long slump. Then, she reportedly reiterated that there was no issue in her end of year meeting. Next thing you know, she’s on campus in Lubbock for a visit before she’s even officially in the portal, to the extent that they tell her and her player hosts to not take photos so they don’t get turned in.

Business is business, cheating is cheating. It doesn’t matter if the result would end up being the same, Sports are built on principle, and that’s what people have a problem with.

Exactly what I heard and why I don’t respect how she went about it. She deceived her teammates and coaches for months.

And that's the problem. If you're going to leave, leave. But just freaking own it instead of being shady about it.
Yes. Just say you’ve decided to transfer. Players transfer all the time. Lying to everyone’s face for months is where you lose all respect from me. She did the coaching staff and her teammates dirty and I don’t care how anyone tries to spin it. SHADY.

Of course this is how 99.9% of Americans go about changing jobs with the exception of a few select ones on this board.

Most people don’t let their boss know that they are looking for a job until they have signed on the Dottied line.

People need to realize this is now a business and not just fun and games.

I hate she is leaving and sad she did it this way but it is what it has come to when big money is involved

The vast majority of average Joe workers don't have the relationship with their boss(es) and coworkers that student athletes have with their coaches and teammates.

She was shady as hell about it and Texas Tech blatantly tampered. There are actually rules in place for this that don't exist for the vast majority of regular jobs. I don't have to like it, I'm not going to like it and that's not going to change no matter how much you and Majors try and spin it. I don't wish her well and I sure as hell don't wish Glasco or Texas Tech well.

Agree with everything you said but unfortunately this is the new world of the business side of it.

Hey Nico’s folks were shopping him for 6+ months…

It is not a “Tennessee” issue. It is a “nearly every program not named Texas Tech” issue. I say “nearly” because there are a few others competing with their dollars better than the rest. But to my knowledge, no program is coming close to matching Tech’s current outlay…it is spending like a drunken sailor.

There is one huge outlier here. Let’s not make it more than it really is.

And I suspect that the huge outlier will eventually get tired of shoveling his money away…and Tech will move back toward the norm.
It appears to me, in this particular case, it was a Tennessee issue. The poster wasn't speaking in generalities.

I get the fans frustration and I get her view as well. Built on principle is gone in the NIL era. This is a business now and in business you have headhunters and you have employees interviewing elsewhere looking for better salary or title. I don’t blame her for denying it as that would have opened up another issue during the season. She turned in for majority of the year an All-American year as a player, graduated early helped the team to a final 4. This is a 20 year old young adult, who was given an offer that is well above what is being reported here. We can disagree on how it got to this point, but as long as travel coaches have influence and boosters give money it’ll be the norm for sought after players.

When was the decision to transfer made by HER and not her father or friends? No doubt there was tampering but before you label her, doesn't it matter when she decided to take the offer? Was it months ago or a couple of weeks ago? Won't matter to some but it would answer some questions I had.

Maybe all these players leaving is them matching the loyalty of their coaches. Maybe it has less to do w $ and more to do with trust and integrity. If you can't trust your coaches to do right by you and the team, why be loyal to them? And as a coach, if you can't match the $, you better be able to sell (and stand by) the culture and the relationship. If you can't, you're beaten. 🤷‍♀️

I’m surprised that there are not more coaching haters liking your post. I hate it that she left. I expect few know the truth about what, who, when and where but Taylor is gone, I’m disappointed but also appreciative of her being a Lady Vol. Good luck Taylor.
