Tennessee is not going to make softball a priority the only way were going to keep or get the top players is have a booster backup that is into softball. That is what is happening at Texas Tech. They have that person throwing all the money needed out there. Softball Nil share from the settlement appears to be 450 thousand dollars so if they divided that evenly among 25 players that is 18 thousand.

Any player you have that performs well is a Texas Tech target. I am expecting Oklahoma and Texas to become heavily involved as well after they see if Texas Tech gets away with this going forward. I'm sure Karlyn got some big offers more than she is making here. She is a true LVFL for staying.

KP is making alot more than the others with personal deals though

Anyone in softball that can cash a check should absolutely do it. As fans it sucks to see players leave, but keep in mind that in the softball world there is little to no money to be made after college for these players. $300K is a really nice nest egg to start with after graduation when you start your next career. It's a no brainer.

true enough, but one wonders why aspiring doctors, engineers, teachers, and so on are not valued as highly --- all most of them leave school with is a lot of debt --- where is the NIL for All-American students? --- once upon a time, the reward for being an accomplished college athlete was a degree that led to a high-paying and/or satisfying future career --- today it's "pay me now" --- time will tell whether this is an improvement or a deterioration for academia

We created this, meaning we the fans. TV deals, ticket prices, etc are all because we the fans participate in it. Not saying if it's good or if it's bad, but it's a product of us. Look at this entire website devoted just to college athletics at one single school. I'll admit I how much I love attending football, basketball, softball, even tennis matches. My daughter is playing at a smaller school now and doesn't have the same NIL opportunities UT players have. Just making the tournament field of 64 is their goal each year. But if she did have NIL opportunities, I'd tell her to follow the money for this brief period of her life.

I’d also weigh it against the value of the education. I’d encourage my daughter to take a bit less from schools like Stanford, Duke, etc. Those degrees are worth significantly more than a softball degree from Texas Tech.

Also, the money is only useful if it is used wisely. Unfortunately, in most of these cases, I bet the whole family expects to get paid. And even though a million dollars seems like a lot of money, around a third will go immediately to the government, and then the remaining 650k doesn’t spread very far. A few cars and a house…and it’s gone.

Karen needs to be courting big money donors. Times have changed like it or not. We will win our share with Karlyn but O boy after her it is going to be grim. Karen proved once again her coaching won’t take us over the top.

I thought I had read that we have several top pitchers committed. Am I wrong?

Even in the baseball thread, "when Moore leaves, it'll be years before were back up", etc

Agreed. Karlyn is elite but we will still be in good hands once she graduates. Sage still has two years left. And I think Nuwer is going to be really good for us too. Like someone else said, we have two top pitchers coming in with the 2025 class as well
