Tennessee Softball 2025

An umpire cannot call a player out for missing any base UNTIL after an appeal is made by the defense or the runner is tagged with the ball. Player has the right to go back and touch a base. An appeal can only be made when the ball is officially put back into play. Since this was after a home run, the ball could not be in play until the next batter stepped into the box. Pitcher takes the ball, steps off rubber and declares her intent to appeal, she then tosses ball to the appropriate base and her teammate then tags the base. THEN the umpire calls safe or out depending on if he/she saw the runner touch or miss the bag/plate. I don’t know the rule about assistance by another player but probably same as for 1b and 3b coaches.
